You are truly a remarkable lady Aloe. :)

Any Moscovite lady that I run into here in SIB, would take one look at those pictures and say NO WAY! (no villages for them)

GOB

BC is spot on, i wouldn't do it without internet  :D But with internet it sounds like a perfect place to be :D Of course if you don't have to work or study, cuz then commuting is probably a nightmare

Obviously has internet access... what more do you really need nowdays?

With the sperm whale the largest predator in the sea and bears on land, I think the beaches are probably quite fine. Don't hear of folks getting eaten by whales.. Pretty expensive though I hear...

Well, there are no bears here. You have to go to Svalbard to see them and there it is illegal to move around unarmed.

Yes, it is expensive here. That`s why we also have high wages  ;)

Well, not necessarily Aloe. If you take a look at one of the photos of the beach, you can also see the Andøya Rocket Range. There they have an international cooperation and from this spring, there will also come students from Russia. I read it in the newspaper just the other day. This place might look a bit wild but it is certainly not behind when it comes to technology.

How high are those wages exactly :D What does a nurse, a cashier in a shop, a starting programmer, a starting engineer make? :D :D And how much is (approximately) rent of 2-3 bedroom place plus all the bills except food per month :D :D :D

Wow, now I must sit down and think. A cashier in a shop is in the low end category. I know because my ex works with that. At the shop here in my village they make 16-17 Euros an hour. A nurse makes about the same as I do (similar education) and it`s 25 Euros per hour. Extra for evening and week-end work and 233% on red letter days. An engineer will probably be a bit over that or sometimes much higher. I guess it depends on how attractive his/her field of expertise is.

It`s much higher in the cities, but rent here will probably be in the 500-700 Euro range. The other bills depends on your consumption. As for myself I paid 220 Euros last month on electricity for example.

I just received the tax papers and last year I paid 25% in income tax. In the month of June they deduct 5 weeks of pay from your pay-check and at the same time pay 12% of the previous years gross salary.

Those are indeed very high wages with comparable to belgian prices. Here a nurse makes around 1200 euro a month at best while rent and so cost the same and taxes are higher, altho for somebody who makes as little as a nurse, the taxes are very low.

1200 Euros for a nurse is very low! Thats about what my old mother gets in her pension. I had a Spanish CouchSurfer here for a visit and she`s a teacher. She said she makes 1500 Euros a month. I make over 3000 Euros after taxes. That`s nothing compared to my brother though. But hes an air traffic controller  :)

Is that a monthly bill :o? If so, you must be running A/C full blast, mine is usually €15, and we have not as many offshore oil rigs in our area.

They must heat houses with electricity as we sometimes have in Canada.

For electricity we use only power generated by waterfalls. And because of the damn EU, they export a lot to other countries so that the magazines drop too much and the prices go up. We don`t use gas though, in our houses.

I was there. First on the bridge, then on the kai with my nephew. If you see Hurtigruten in Risøyhamn, I'm wearing blue jeans pants and jacket  :D
Great happening with lots of happy people even so early in the morning.

Damn crappy belgian internet with tiny traffic limits, i can't even see the video, that's how low the speed is, it's like dial-up speed after you use up all your monthly traffic. So lame. Want to buy healthy competition on telecom market in belgium!!!!!!!
