cliff notes version
« on: April 02, 2011, 05:43:37 PM »
OK, here is a cliff notes version of what just disappeared into cyberspace somewhere.

You found this forum so you are already on the right track. There is a ton of valuable information here.

1. Read the 10 commandments

2. Read the RWD FAQ's

3. Then read until your eyes bleed. (especially the trip reports)

4. Go to Ebay or Craigslist and find a Pimsluer Russian language CD for your car and
a Rosetta Stone Russian CD for your computer.

5. As you read you will have questions write them down after you have a list come back
here and ask your questions.

You will get lots of advice, some of it very opinionated. Your job is to read through the advice
and use what you think will work for you, your personality and your situation. Sift out that what
you think will work and use it.

As for sites I would stay away from any pay per letter sites. Join sites which allow unrestricted
access to the ladies for a flat fee or a free site.

Here are a few,

Luckylovers, about $20 per month
http://www.luckylovers.net/

Free personals (NOTE STAY away from Aweb which advertises here)
http://freepersonals.ru/

FD dating (stay away from Aweb)
http://fdating.com/

Another one
http://freerussiandating.us/

Some will recommend Elena's Models

Ok, if this disappears again I don't have the patience to write it again.

Udachi,

Ask for a girls phone number fairly early on. Every girl in the FSU including girls who live
in a mud hut and live exclusively on seals and roots has a cell phone by the age 16. If she
doesn't give you the number then either she isn't that into you (or is a fat Yuri) and you
should move on. Ignore the 476 excuses why she doesn't want to give it to you and move
on.

The technical issues have been resolved.

Other random thoughts 1. Get an apartment and not a hotel:An apartment is bigger, often less expensive, has a kitchen / refrigeratorMany hotels will treat any female guest as if she were a prostitute. Many ladies will not even go into a hotel. Your lady might wish to cook for you or "play house" You can get up at three in the morning (because of your jet lag) in your boxersgo to the refrigerator and have a cold drink or make yourself a sandwich. Try doing this in a hotel. 2. Bring a big fluffy towel ! Every towel in every apartment I stayed in the FSU had thread bare towels. 3. Bring a positive attitude and a sense of humor. Sh!t will happen !!! don't have a brain aneurysm ! laugh, imagine the story you can tell your friends or us at RWD

That's generally sage advice, Bill!

Not for me though. Maybe it's because I stayed in Moscow the first time. All the ladies I met didn't have problems going to the hotel I was staying in, and certainly didn't have problems going with me just about anywhere. I got to romp around inside the hotel grounds all night long and made sure the personnel stayed awake for me. Got my money's worth there.

Room services were awesome. I didn't really want to cook, so I called in for room service. I had better things to do with my time during those times than cook. Concierges were so convenient. The jacuzzi late at night was, well, too darn tantalizingly fun and sexy to pass up. Why waste a great appetizer....the ladies agree, too. i've asked them to bring in their bathing suits just in case. Almost all of them did, except for one. She forgot and she regretted it. I can't however convince her the accessory is wholly optional. She didn't buy it. I tried...

If you spend thousands of dollars to travel half way around the world to find someone to spend the rest of your life with do you really want to risk even a small chance of spending several days on a toilet with severe stomach cramping and pain? How much money will you save going Native? Certainly not enough. By the way the Natives don't drink unboiled or unbottled water either

2tallbill,

Now that I'll be finally walking down the aisle after five years of looking and traveling (more trips than I care to count at the moment).  I'll add one more important point, that's to not overlook your local market (lots of nice ladies here and you don't have the mind field of overseas relationships where you need to judge motives, deal with cultural/language differences, and distance which limits face-to-face time (not to mention overall cost).  Yes, both myself and my fiancee would say to not do it as it's not as easy as it sounds.

OK, beyond that, if you still go overseas then stay within your league when looking overseas and wait until you are ready for a relationship as it seems like far too many men rush overseas right after a bad divorce looking for the young hot lady (maybe in a subconscious way to validate themselves).  Anyways, when you do this, it often leads to bad things.

No matter what, good luck!

I understand there are a ton of them near where you live. Is it easy to date them?

I have dated several, and one in particular for over 6 months. Is it easy? hmmmmm
is anything about FSUW particularly easy? Yes, I would say it was easy having dated
them before.

I would also have to say that every single one of them was different in many ways.
The a few things about them  seemed to be the same were

1. Their ability to interrogate  (from the first date on)
2. Getting to the point (no guesswork on where you stand)
3. Ability to move on

Bill your advice about avoiding the tap water is spot on.  It should also be noted that some bottled water in the FSU can be just as unsafe as FSU tap water because sometimes that is exactly what the bottled water is, untreated FSU tap water.  Some unscrupulous retailers will use empty bottled water bottles and refill them with FSU tap water.  To avoid this situation try to buy only bottled water brands you know and make sure that the twist off top hasn't been previously twisted off.

Another way to help combat traveller's diarrhea is to make sure you take medication to combat traveller's diarrhea with you when you travel.  Pepto Bismol and other brands all have small travellers size packets that can be stored in your carry on bag or even in your pockets.  There's no reason not to carry the medication with you whenever or wherever you travel.

Advice from a different Bill

Things to bring on your trip.
I walk on average 5-10 miles per day in the FSU so I bring a couple pairs of very good walking shoes and a pair of hiking boots (more on this in a future post. It takes up a ton of room in my suitcases but its worth itFoot powder or baby powder makes those ten miles more comfortable.Small Flashlight, I have never been to the FSU without the power going off at least once.Chap Stick to keep your lips from getting dry and works for hang nails tooI-pod / CD playerGum, for when you eat out and can't brush Digital cameraElectric converters and adaptersSome coffee table picture books of your areaBaby wipesI bring a Swiss army knife in my packed luggage. I have used the little scissors and the screwdriver feature on every single trip at least once.I have an estaco electronic translator it is incredibly useful. You must be able to spell to use it however so a handheld dictionary is a good back up.A full size American fluffy bath towel, the ones in the apartments are always small and thread bare. Many men recommend some melatonin (how do you spell this?) to help regulate sleep patterns. Nothing works for me but it works for others.

Bring brand new money (dollars or Euros)with you. I am not sure what the guys from Oz, Canada or Countries with other currencies do. I know that dollars and Euros are most common. Maybe someone who knows can tell us how easy it is to exchange other currenciesin a post. The airport usually has the worst exchange rate in the country. You might use your ATM card and take out some cash at the airport. Then exchange itin the city you travel to in order to get a better rate. Regardless of Currency make sure it's brand new with no folds or writing on it. Make sure they are as perfect as possible or they will not take them. Advise your bank ahead of time when and where you will be traveling around the FSU. Otherwise your ATM / Credit Card might not work. Many places still don't take credit cards, places that allow an American Express card are rare and a Diners Club Card is only useful for scraping
frost off a car windshield while in the FSU.
