Hotel Ukraine fire

Facebook friend posted this photo of fire in Hotel Ukraine in Kyiv.  I cannot find information in English, I suspect because it has just happened.

News says 32 evacuated with 3 injuries isolated to 8 and 9 floors.  Apparently happened on today, Friday June 3.


When I stayed here it was one of the better hotels in town--I think there are a few better choices now.  The hotel market in Kyiv seems to be very expensive still though for a Western style room.  Hope that changes.

I stayed there too, not long ago. On the 8th floor.
I'm not surprised about the fire really.
The place was like a giant ash tray. Every floor reeked of tobacco smoke.

I stayed there my first trip to Kiev a few years ago - 6th floor with an excellent view of Independence Square. Hope nobody was badly hurt. The rooms were clean but the place looked like it was built back in the Soviet days - ahh, but have very nice memories from that hotel.

I saw in google search that there was a fire last year at the Hotel Ukraine in Moscow.

The fire in Kiev was due to an AC prob...
