Does anyone know.... the agency in Khmelnitsky?
« on: June 15, 2011, 12:05:12 AM »
Heading over to UA in about 6 weeks ... and found a nice gal on RLM (no, haven't paid a dime) but she's in Khmelnitsky - and I've been searching high and low for any 'marriage agency' there, with little success... Seems there's only one - RLM/HRB in drag? ( ) - but no way I'm falling for their $$$ and games - However, I really would like to find this gal via the agency they use there - Anyone know of any, or better yet *the* HRB/RLM agency there in Khmelnitsky?

TIA -

Cheers

Friend of mine was there last year - he had a reasonably good time, but I caught up with him in Odessa and I wasn't so impressed by the agency which organised his whole trip (based in Odessa, with one or two (?) days in Khmelnitsky).  Apartment, taxis, translators...you name it, he bought it.  I'll ask him the name.

As sonn as he told me I remembered - it was the Orchid Agency, a big outfit with offices all around Ukraine.  I hope you have better luck than he did.

There are a number of threads here about this agency, do a search.  Here's one:

I know nothing about Khmelnitsky - just know it's smaller - wedged between Kiev and Odessa and should be an easy "stop"... can't be too hard to find an agency - The YouTube video link I shared before, office looks pretty modern and all the girls busy at work trying to video chat guys on HRB/RLM - Trust me, I'm not a fan... just emailed a gal, and wanna roll the dice a bit :) Sadly when I pushed for more info, they shut my account down...

Moving on - I'll check out "Orchid" - I think I've heard of them before... but may be confusing that with an Asian site... Will also check out the others...

I didn't realise there were more answers to my Q - sorry - But will also ask this... I wanna spend a month in Poltava / Zap area .... See loads off flats for rent - but do not know the area at all... Can anyone make any suggestions as far as what parts of town are better than others... and maybe someone reputable to deal with? Found this one... price is reasonable - but have no clue about the area... For $600 bucks - seems pretty good really (there are loads cheaper, but if I'm hanging for a month, might as well be somewhat nice) aye?

Booze...Khmelnitsky is in western Ukraine..more west of Kiev....Odessa is straight south of Kiev, unless you are talking about another city?

Poltava and Zap are not 'close' to each other. It is not easy to manuver in Ukraine unless you know russian. It is well over 100 miles between cities. Poltava is almost 200 miles from Kiev.

Okay - Thanks for that...

I must have been high when I looked at the map, b/c I thought Khmelnitsky was only like 20km off the N/S road from Kiev to Odessa - In looking at it closer now, it is waaaaay west.... and probably too far off the beaten path - So, guess I'll skip over it unless she's willing to meet me in Kiev or Odesa...

Part 2 - I flipped Dnipro and Poltava in my head... Want to have a central locale for going to Poltava and Zap (and maybe even Kharkiv) - I know they're about 80-100km apart (respectively) but if I am gonna hang out there 2-3 months, am sure I can sort something over time .... But guess that now pushes me to looking for a flat in Dnipro - which I haven't a clue about either... I have a contact in Poltava - so that made it easier... Now? I dunno - Am booking my flights this week - so need to sort something.

Cheers -

Check with Simoni (a member here) for an apartment in Dnepropetrovsk.  Looks like he had an awesome one in MOCT City on his last trip, and sounds like a very reasonable price.

If you've not been there before MOCT City is about dead centre of where you would want to be.  1 block from European Square lots of nice restaurants/pubs in the complex, supermarket downstairs, etc.

I'm still feeling my away around on this site - but will try to PM Simoni - thanks for the tip...

No, I've never been to eastern UA - let alone Dnepropetrovsk, but am looking forward to it :) Not familiar with the term MOCT City... But based on the map(s) I've seen for other flats, is that down by the river and off Marks? This is a total wing-it trip... but that's half the fun :)

Baron,

Dnepropetrovsk is an awesome city.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

MOCT is pronounced Moss-T and is the RU word for Bridge.  MOCT City is a shopping and office complex down near the river... at the end of the middle bridge in the city.

It's a very modern centre with everything you'll want...  but don't spend ALL of your time there...  there's lots to get out and see in the city.

Here's some pics of Moct.

First one is just the exterior view from the corner.  There are two cylindrical towers, one directly above the shopping centre, the other directly next door.

The second photo is taken from the steps outside Moct.  To the right of the building across the road (and one block down) is European Square.  Straight across the road on this street from European Square are a dozen or so flower sellers with nice quality flowers at very cheap prices.  One block further down past European Square (and across the street) is an open air arcade that sells pirated movies etc...  if you're against pirating of movies I'm sure you could send money directly to Hollywood stars after you purchase.   :P

The third photo is a crop of the second photo to show you what a parking officer/security guard looks like.  You see lots of people like this when you're out for walks.

Fourth pic is a simple one inside of Moct.  There's 3 floors wrapping around a big atrium.  Nice cafe on the ground floor of the atrium.  Different restaurants, etc on the first floor - including Portofino which surprisingly seemed to have mainly groups of girls out for a bottle of wine and a bite for dinner after work on the last Thursday night we were there.  Hard to mingle though as everyone sits at tables.

Happy to help if there's anything you need. Simoni would have good tips too!

Thanks for that Kuna - Sounds great...!  How long were you there total? Did you visit other cities? How'd you make out in the end? (if not top secret!:))  - FWIW, I did just drop Simoni a PM asking about things.... so we'll see if he can be of any help? - Don't know the guy, so feel kinda odd asking... but every little bit helps!  Was going to Praha for a month before this... but thinking now I'll pass over that, and spend the extra time in UA - Seems the pickings are bit better these days :)

I've been four times now...  Met my wife in Kiev on my first trip and was in and out like a flash from Dnepr in the middle of winter (just because I wanted a few extra hours with her as she came back up to Kiev for my last weekend there).

We've been married almost 4 years now...  2 wonderful little boys and a lot more grey hair (me, not her!).   :-X

Other trips to Dnepr have been for around 3 weeks each time - but I would love to stay longer if work commitments weren't getting in the way.

I've also been to Cherkassy...  OK city, smaller,  not like Dnepr much at all but there is a very good Historical Museum there and the ice-fishing in winter is something to see!

Spent a fair bit of time in Kiev which I think is a great city but it's bigger, faster and not sure whether many men are meeting wives there.  Certainly worth going there though, especially if you're into clubs/etc.  There's also a lot of history and some really interesting sights to see.

Been to Moscow and St Pete too...  wonderful cities!  My in-laws are in Moscow so we'll be spending more time there in future too.

Couple of things about travel to Ukraine from this side of the world.  Going via Western Europe sucks!  Whenever we go back now we like to stop over in Asia somewhere for a day or two, get measured up for suits/business shirts, etc... do some shopping and sightseeing and then fly direct into Kiev.  We've done it both from Beijing and from Bangkok on Aerosvit.  The flights work out a bit cheaper and you arrive feeling a little more alive.  Added bonus is the shopping/new clothes you pick up on the way back through.

To save money on accom just book the mystery hotels in Asian cities on wotif.com.  Last time we got a great 4 star 3 bedroom suite (wife and I,  boys in another room, my mother in the third room) for $53 per night.  Can't lose!

I'd recommend flying from Kiev to Dnepr as it's only an hour and while the train is modern and safe it's still a 6 hour trip.  Might be worth taking the reverse trip that one one day to see the countryside and villages...  but it's more time on a train than you'll want (unless you have company).

Dnepropetrovsk itself is a great city... and a few members here have spent lots of time there... Simoni was most recent therefore my suggestion to contact him over the apartment he had because it is in a prime spot!

PM me if you want any specific details.
