I just picked up a copy of National Geographic - on the cover was the body of a naked obese woman. The article is called Fat. Amazingly it has been proven that people are fat because they eat too much and exercise too little. They could have saved some money on that research. But what I found interesting was the map of the world by obesity.

The worst offenders (obesity rate higher than 24%)

USA , Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, and RUSSIA?

Next worst (20-24%)

UK, Germany, Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq and a few others

Hmmm - so how did Russia get up there?

Geez - no wonder we're looking else where. I also noted with interest that (AW) females had a larger increase in calorie intake than males since the last study. Males had increased by about 160 calories a day and females by something like 360 calories per day increase. If I recall they were comparing to the 1970s.

So 360 calories more per day per female is a lot of fat.

Hmmm - so how did Russia get up there?

Cos when you go to Russia you only look at young girls. Try to pay attention to older people, esp. with kids (after 30 y.o.). For example, parents of those girls who post on dating websites. Russian people are fat in general. Younger girls are skinny cos they go on crazy diets, they still walk everywhere (this one's gonna disappear soon) and it's just simple metabolism. I look at pictures of my classmates from Russia, most of them are married and have kids, not skinny any more..

In Russia the obesity problem is higher among the wealthy. In America the obesity problem is higher among the poor.

We have the fattest poor people in the world - go figure.
