My wife is interested in politics and we saw this woman on TV last summer when I was in Ukraine.
I also remember seeing a documentary about the orange revolution and this woman was shown several times.
Ukraine just celebrated their constitution day holiday. My wife says the constitution doesn't work!

May I ask, what constitution? She'll understand.

FWIW, all should be brought on trial for plundering the economy. It is disgusting what their "elected" officials do with the treasury. For example, the current president stole the residence where he is living right now fair and square. It was akin to a national park in the US and suddenly he produced papers stating that the property belongs to him. A multimillion dollar piece of real estate from a guy who bare makes $40K a year.

The former PM is not far behind.

They lied to the people during that Orange revolution.

Wife was concerned about a friend from her hometown [Odessa].
The lady lives w/spouse in No Dakota.
Lots of water there but no danger of their house flooding.

Anyway, news of sorts from Odessa.........
The report coming from this lady's sister/family abroad is that now the Egyptians as well as the Chechen mafia are taking over a lot of stuff.

Don't know about other cities but there is a certain consensus of opinion now that Ukraine was better off in the Soviet U.

We may hear more about all this in the future.

Depends where you are. Odesa, Sevastopol and maybe Donetsk would clamor for the old days of the Russian subjugation Soviet Union. Here in Kharkiv you won't hear much talk about that, not like in Sevastopol.

Yulia Tymoshenko was arrested on August 5th and will appear in court on August 8th.  It appears that this is because in her official capacity as Prime Minister she signed agreements with Russia that ended the gas delivery crisis.  A good opinion piece from the Kyiv Post is here:  http://www.kyivpost.com/news/opinion/editorial/detail/110291/

"The accusations have never made much sense – that she, as prime minister illegally reached a 2009 natural gas supply contract with Russia to end a three-week crisis that threatened to freeze Europe in the dead of winter.. Any violations Tymoshenko committed seem more procedural than criminal, although she should have made all details of the agreement public at the time."

A judge has banned peaceful demonstrations.  From what I've read on the Kyiv Post and elsewhere is sounds like a tense situation may be brewing.  Do you see another Orange Revolution coming or have the Ukrainian people been beaten down to the point where they will just submit to this kind of governance?
