yellow letter from immigration
« on: July 30, 2011, 06:41:27 AM »
My stepson received a yellow letter asking for more information to bring to the citizenship hearing. The notice is asking for him to bring a drivers license or a state id. What happens if his drivers license is temporarily suspended? His green card and Ukrainian passport are not sufficient? Does USCIS have access to MVA records? We are beginning to worry now.

I don't know what state you live in but, if his DL is suspended, most states will issue a non driver state ID. Usually, at the same place that issue DL. He'll have to surrender it when he gets his license back. I am not at all familiar with citizenship process but it would be highly recommended to take to the meeting, what they ask for.

What was the offense that caused him to lose his DL?

He received  2 speeding tickets and was required to attend an 8 hour driver improvement program. He forgot to attend the program. Since then he has attended the program.

I wouldn't sweat that too much. A DUI would likely be looked at much differently. I can't imagine they would do a DMV check but it's possible. In any event, a couple of speeding tickets wouldn't be the end of the world but, I would pursue the state ID. Showing up at the meeting without it would probably only postpone his citizenship

Well, Mykhaylo went in last week, passed the citizenship test but there was a new wrinkle. The officer said he would automatically become a US citizen if his mom was Naturalized before he turned age 18. A week later he gets a notice asking for a ton of new evidence. He was actually 18 years and 6 months when his mother became a Naturalized US citizen in  July of 2009. I was going to send in a copy of his high school diploma and copies of his mothers Naturalization papers and US passport. Does this seem appropriate? Would USCIS really need a letter from his father, 5 years of tax returns and evidence from his high school and evidence of residency? He was over 18 in July of 2009.
