Vladivostok
« on: August 27, 2011, 01:32:26 AM »
Anyone been to Vladivostok?  My interest in FSU is first and foremost a historic thing because I grew up during The Cold War.  Vladivostok was a major player back in those days.  I'd love to walk around there.  I don't know if there is much there besides military facilities though.  It's a long way to go if it's nothing more than a Navy town.
Beauty fades, but an interesting woman just gets more interesting...and an irritating woman just gets more irritating.

It's supposed to be fairly heavily polluted. Not sure if it's a place I'd like to wander around for fun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladivostok#Pollution

I went there with my wife last January/Febuary. Two pieces of advice

1) Dress warm, the wind will go through 3 layers of winter clothing
2) Do NOT stay at Hotel Vladivostok.

Let me know if you have any specific questions

You can read my Vladivostok trip report in the Trip Reports section - should be a few pages in.  Lots of details there about the city. Great place, much more than a Navy town.
