Death of Terry Hallman
« on: September 05, 2011, 07:48:26 PM »
I just read this on another website.  I never met Terry in person, but I had email correspondence with him going back to around 2003.  At that time he was living in Simferopol.  He was living with a Russian woman who was a professor at a University.  There developed some problems with her passport or residence and she went back to Russia for awhile and had problems with the authorities there also.  Later, she got back into Ukraine and they relocated to Kharkiv.  Terry was always working with some US and Ukrainian government agencies and was frustrated that the Ukrainian side always wanted some kickback money even as he was trying to help the children.

Anyway, Terry was quite helpful to me on several occasions with advice and info
about apartments, etc.

The second of 'ours' to pass away  in Ukraine this year.

His email was 'webmaster' as I recall.

Terry Hallman who appeared here as Terry H died in Kharkiv on 18 August. His primary focus until the end was the plight of children abandoned to state care in what are known as 'psycho neurological internats' . This took priority over his health and finally his life. It was here on RWL 12 years ago that Terry and I first began talking. The subject I remember well - The Ignorance and Want allegory from Dickens' Christmas Carol.  At that time Terry was researching what would later become the Tomsk Regional Initiative. Our paths grew closer from 2003, when on returning to the States Terry began a fast for economic rights. I offered him an exit strategy which led to him coming to the UK to set up his concept of a people-centered business model.  From 2004 onward Terry was permanently resident in Ukraine. In the 'shocking and insightful' article entitled 'Death Camps for Children' Terry wrote in 2006, he described the conditions discovered by visiting NGO and began sketching out a plan to deal with the problem. This became a formal strategy paper described as a 'Marshall Plan' for Ukraine by the end of that year. Through collaborating with the Maidan civic action group we now have a lot more information on these internats and they will soon be published on the Maidan website. The original location described in Terry's article was Torez near Donetsk and in February 2001, this became the focus of a Sunday Tmes article which was followed by the release of this video:
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Terry was my very good friend. Every time I visited Xapkib, I'd call him and we would meet. He spent many days with us in the "village" and met my in laws. We'd talk about politics and his work in Xapkib. Last summer he showed me the picture of a goon hired to take care of him. The goon was quickly sent back to Russia.

I've known him for more than 10 years and all he talked most was about Russian/Ukrainian orphans and the abuse these children go through and his relentless pursuit of foreign help and political assistance to deal with this problem. A true human being whom cared for the "parasites."

I'll definitely miss him.

RIP

Terry was quite a character.  I met Terry many, many years ago, in fact right after he had first moved to Kharkov. It was always interesting hearing the latest tales Terry had to tell.  A few years after Terry had been in Kharkov he introduced me to some nice young men, including a family from America who had moved to Kharkov to preach the gospel.   It was these young men that I so much enjoyed playing basketball with twice a year for several years.  Twice a year I would bring a new gift, we would have some type new bb competition and I would make sure someone new always won a gift, as Terry would have done.

I think my trips to Kharkov will not be quite the same,  just as my trips to Donestk with the passing of David. Two wonderful men.

Hi all, The article quoted by ML above came from me. I'm still fighting Terry's corner two years on.

What I offer today is an insight into some of the problems we faced, outside those of organised crime and defamation. We were calling for what many are now describing as impact investment. Apparently the next big thing in finance.

Terry, it seems had ideas that others wanted to own.
