I-693 form
« on: October 14, 2011, 02:31:10 PM »
for my Wife's AOS, I know we will need to get her another exam for the I-693 because her medical exam in Moscow for the K1/K2 Visa was on July 1, 2010 so it has been over 1 year

for our/her 11 yr old son also for the K1/K2 Visa he had his medical exam in Moscow on July 1, 2010 BUT he also had to have an additional exam and additional shots for entrance into school here, this exam was performed by our family doctor here in the States, this exam was done on December 7, 2010

so for the I-693 will we need to fork over an addition $160 for him (cost for the civil surgeon) for another "Exam" or since he had a physical exam less than 1 year ago be sufficient?

the Civil Surgeon is stating he needs an exam also, but I"m not sure if they are just trying to make a buck or he does actually need another exam

so thought i Ask here first before forking over $320 ($160 for the wife and another $160 for our son)

Sorry Chili,

I don't have a definitive answer for you here other than to say that everything I have read indicates that she *must* be examined by the "Civil Surgeon" for the exam to be valid.  I'm not as far along as you in the process though so there could be some kind of waiver or something that I don't know about.

It appears that there are layers of complexity comprised of special hoops, each having its own admission price for the privilege of jumping through.

Good luck man..
Dave

The exam for the I-693(?) for an adjustment of status IIRC is completely independent of the exam she had for the K-1 and there are no ways around it. I "think" we paid more than $160 if that is any consolation to you. I don't think this exam for AOS has any relation to her exam for the K-1 at all. I could be wrong however.

.[/t][/t]I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. Only if your DS-3025 is marked "incomplete" is a I-693 required to be completed. If it is marked as such (incomplete) you are required to complete certain portions of the I-693 and have a Civil Surgeon certify the form (and seal it in an evelope). Specifically, you will complete Part 1 (Information about you) of the I-693 and provide both the form and your DS-3025 (if you have it, proving your vaccination history) and any proof of required vaccinations that were completed prior to entering the US. If you do not have a copy of your DS-3025 you will need to provide sufficient evidence of your vaccination history to the Civil Surgeon (talk to the civil surgeon's office to discuss what vaccination records they accept as proof). If you do not have proof of your vaccination history the Civil Surgeon may insist on re-administering all the required vaccinations prior to completing the I-693. Once the Civil Surgeon has has verified that all required vaccinations have been performed, they will complete form I-693 Part 2 (the vaccination section) and Part 5 (the Civil Surgeon's Certification). They will then seal the form in an envelope and return it to you.

It sounds to me that your son should be ok since his exam was under the one year mark.
