East Europe Passport Problem
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:06:23 AM »
My friend from Romania called here today, she sister lives in New Jersey and her Romanian Passport expires in a month.   The Romanian embassy told her she has to go back to Romania to get a passport renewal.  Problem is she is waiting for a green card and if she leaves she can't get back?   Actually none of this really makes sense since I don't know the sister, but Larissa thought I might know someone who knew what her sister should do.   Any ideas??  Thanx, RIchard

Could she apply for an Emergency Advance Parole for this? I haven't looked at the reuqirements on the USCIS site but this seems like a pretty valid reason to get one.

I really cannot see a country refusing entry for a citizen with an expired passport.  Not to say it can't happen or raise a lot of eyebrows.  I would check with the embassy if entry with an expired passport is ok or not.

Maybe if a passport is 'lost' there are provisions for an emergency or temporary passport that can be issued by the Embassy.

Her problem is not getting into Romania with an expired passort, but rather getting into the US withoug a green card...   Something makes me think she is in the USA illegally since this is an issue.....  I will ask her to find out
