Flight Costs
« on: November 11, 2011, 02:27:13 PM »
Hello Everyone,

This may seem like a silly question, but I am going to ask it anyway.  I was looking at flights to Lviv and the taxes and fees were higher than the airfare itself.  Is this normal?  I have traveled extensively across the US and a bit to Europe and I have never seen that before.  Example  Airfare is $420 Taxes and Fees are $592 for a total cost of $1012.

Thanks in advance

The taxes and fees generally remain the same for overseas flights no matter the cost of the ticket. I lucked and got a decent flight out of Seattle flying to Moscow next week: $840 including taxes.

Well, if that is round trip from the USA or Canada ,
it seems a reasonable overall cost, regardless percentage /fees taxes.

Mirage, yes, this is quite common today.   And remember those free flights when you use frequent flyer miles?  Their not so free anymore, have to pay for airport taxes and fee's. Last time I used my FF miles had to pay around $450 in taxes and fee's.

Mirage, it depends where you are departing from AND where you have a layover.

Actually it really doesn't matter...just look at total cost only. I have seen sites where airfare is $700 and taxes are $250 and another site where airfare is $550 and taxes are $500 ( just examples) same trip but different airlines(operators).

From what I can tell it most depends on how the site puts together travel package. When I went to Denpropetrovsk in October Orbitz had the fare at $406 and the fess at about $650. I purchased the same flights through United for $8 less and the fare was something like $876 and about $170 in fees.

This is sweet..

Schedule changes - The airline may change your flight itinerary at any time. If we are notified of an itinerary change, we will contact you by email and/or phone. If the airline has not provided you with an acceptable alternative itinerary, our agents will try to reaccommodate you according to the airline's policy and availability.

The total price for your booking may increase after your purchase due to an increase of a government-imposed tax or fee.

Your ticket is non-refundable. If you change your reservation, airlines may charge a fee to use your ticket as credit for a new reservation.  This fee varies by airline, market, and specific fare rules, and may be $150 or more for domestic tickets and $200 or more for international tickets.  Some tickets do not allow any changes. [you're just screwed if an emergency arrises]

Ahhh the fairness of it all.
