Howdy from Texas
« on: November 25, 2011, 10:46:30 AM »
I've read through a few of the threads and see that an introduction seems important around here, so I thought I'd say "howdy".

A little history: I've been interested RW and UW ladies and their culture since 1979 - I was in the Coast Guard then and had opportunities to board fishing vessels from the Soviet Union. I met many nice folks, both men and women, and have been communicating with them ever since.

Over the years I've managed to learn to speak, read, and write Russian well enough to get around, survive, and carry on a basic conversation.

I have many friends spread throughout Russia and Ukraine - both men and women, but it is the "mysterious Russian soul" of the ladies that intrigue most.

Hope to make some friends here!

 :welcome: to the forum BigTexan.

It sounds like you have some insight into the culture and familiarity with the language. More than I could say when I started.

There are many points of view here and some disagreement.  But don't let bother you. Pick what works for you.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome folks :)

I don't know that I have any special insights, but I do have interesting stories to tell. As for when I will visit - I visited Ukraine the summer before last. I stayed one night in Odessa (so tired after the 22 hours to travel), then went to Nikolaev, then on to Crimea. It was a great trip and went by far too quickly.

I hope to make it to Russia within a year - I would like to take the cruise ship from Moscow to St. Petersburg, and also visit Saratov on the Volga.

Hello BigTexan,
welcome to the forum. I too enjoy Crimea in the summer. My granmothers on both my mom's and dad's side of the family come from that area (Sevastopol and Simferopol).
