List of things to take to the Ukraine
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:45:42 PM »
I'd like to compile a list of essential items for a trip.

For example, i have a verizon wireless 4G smart phone CDMA technology, should I get a SIM card or plan for it or rent one from someone else,  i know many tours supply this.

Lap top and computer connection, do the hotels and apartments have wifi or whats the best way.

should you expect the ladies to visit you during weekdays  (during the day) i assume they are working.

Is it true that if you stay in a hotel, no respecting lady is going to come and visit you after 6 pm, but they will in a Flat or apartment ?    My point is should an apartment always be booked

What is the voltage and plug type like is it 50 or 60 hz and 120 or 250 volts a/c ?

What are the clothes shops like there, like can I buy a few shirts  or bring them all from home.

I didn't put all the obvious normal stuff like a camera, pictures of home, kids, animals, mother, father etc...

Thanks, Don

anything else i missed ?

I can speak for Russia. I've never been to UA. Chances are your 4G technology isn't going to work without some outrageous fees from your company or the company you buy a sim card with. Leave it at home. Either use an old phone or buy a cheapo that will accept a sim card and buy a sim card when you get there

How did you expect to procure these ladies? "How" will you get an introduction?

Book an apartment, you'll be glad you did. In the West a Hotel seems the best fit, in the East, an apartment is. Trust me here

Unless you have some old equipment that doesn't have a built in converter, all you'll need for most anything is a simple universal plug adapter. You can find them at Wal Mart, Radio shack

Keep in mind you are going across the ocean, not leaving the planet. Travel as "light" as you possibly can. Weight matters. Try to keep all your clothing weather appropriate and versatile enough to interchange. Rent a flat with a washing machine, wi-fi and a kitchen if possible. Think simplistic. There's just about nothing you can't buy there if you need it. No need to pack up a bunch of crap to half to carry it half way around the world.

4g phones also work on 3G and as a regular old analog phone.  But they also have GPS and WIFI capability.  I need to find out if Verizon has any plans in the UKR, I think I can also get a SIM card for my phone, its an HTC thunderball.

How am I gonna meet women ?   I have accounts at verious free sights and will follow ML's rules about filtering out the ladies. Curently I like freepersonals.ru      I have also been in contact with Jack and he has offered his services.  Jack is extremely knowledgable.  Its possible I might just go on his May tour, we will see.

Thanks for all the pointers.

Has anyone used the Magic Jack or Magic Jack plus.  They are revolutionary and unique.  I am not a schill for them so don't start.

http://www.magicjack.com/plus-v05/

You can use it in your computer usb port, or use it without a computer, plug in into the wall a/c power with a router (rj45 cat 5 ethernet from your router).  It would be cool if they made a wifi connection but that's for next year.

For a very low price it gives you a landline phone number anhywhere in the world.  So you can be in the Ukraine with your magic jack and the phone will ring on any area code you choose, you can even transfer your home number.  The call quality is very good.    You could give a magic jack to your girl so she can call you.  i would like to do a comparison on magic jack vs. SKYPE.

I can think of all sorts of possibilities where you want to have an area codes (you can pick from 1000's of them from every state)   You can buy these things really cheap like 20 per year.

ok enough of the sales pitch Don.

It's basically whatever floats your boat. Mostly how much you'll need a phone. It sounds like you'll need one.

There are different approaches WMVM, VWVO, WOVO ect. ect.. There's really no right or wrong way. Some play the numbers, make a trip and others work on relationship and due diligence prior to going. It's a matter of what you are more comfortable with. From your posts so far and with your leanings to ML's approach, I would suggest you take a tour or go the paid wingman route. Many guys are drawn to this pursuit because they feel enabled to simultaneously date multiple women and get away with it. And they can but, there's drawbacks in most all approaches. Keep in mind your catch is directly related to your bait.

I think there will be many RWDers who will hear of how you support your  personal hygiene practices  as a piece of information best kept secret   ;D

I'm with Faux Pas. Knowing that there is a tour in may (Jack) i would advice you to enter in touch with him and begin the process with this guy. You can of course, knowing in advance where you are going with his tour, contact ladies from the cities you will visit. And ONLY the cities you are going to visit. This the classical pitfall, guys see a beautiful face and are excited and begin to write to every ladies everywhere. I would recommand to save your money for may and for futurs travels of the year. You need to consider if you meet one in may you would  meet her again, so you can potentially go three times easily in one year (depending of theduration of your vacation).

About your phone, a lot of US guys seems to have problems with their mobiles in Ukraine. And forget your operator, you will expense a fortune for nothing. Like every experiment guy, buy an ukrainian sim when you arrive and put 20 $ in it. Buy an inexpensive mobile so will be secure. You can use only normal sim in Ukraine and not micro sim. ?

I don't know about magicjack, but i rely on a 3g key with a peoplenet card sim. You can use internet everywhere and it's not expansive. Just the 3 g key which costs something like 40 $. Do not pay the cheapest fee with Peoplenet to have minimal debit for internet connection.

Most times I use night crawlers for bait...,, Wait a minute, what kinda bait are you talking about ?

Dont you think a cell phone is important ?? If I am planning on meeting 20 or so girls, wouldnt getting their cell or emails into my phone be the best idea ?  Im also gonna pack my netbook and hope their is wifi.  Do all the cafes have free wifi ?

As far as dating the girls,   I know that it's an odd dynamic, people have gone round and round about what the true intentions are of the girls and guys.  i don't think it's possible to fall truely in love unless you see each other multiple times over 6 months or more.  I know that these girls are intersted in a guy who will treat them well, who wants to have a family and who can provide for the family, They are looking at that in addition to my physical atributes and personality.   I think it will be diffilcult to not meet a hot 22 year old who just wants a fun week of shopping and bopping.  I will try to avoid this.   I think it's a good thing to go through a filtering process,  knowing me I'll be back in my hotel room with my paredo charts of the girls while everyone is out having a good time.  LOL  Thanjks fir all the help.

OK so you buy the regular SIM card which gets you a cell number and then get a phone and put the SIM card in it.   I wonder if I can get the SIM card ahead of time so I know the number.

Those little maglite led flashlights should go over well, as well as t-shirts with logo's and 'hoodies'.. those sweatshirts with a hood and logo's.  all make for fairly light packing.

To solve the problem of girl's adresses i have two iphone replicated each other. And i have a shot of each profile in each phone, so i have the basis of each girl. And i keep some notes about the girls with whom i have had a reciprocal interest and a summary of importants questions we have to exchange or to answer in Ukraine (for some girls, the most importants).

It depends..Hotels would supply toiletries [of course] but staying at a private room it would do to supply your own needs.

Only been to europe once to Chamonix to ski and all i remember was the awesume skiing.  Can I just get a roll of TP at the ukrainian wally mart ?  Can't believe that an apartment wouldn't have a roll hanging?  But i'll pack one.

Man, harbor freight has those LED flashlights for cheap, I could hand a different color out to each girl !   But they are handy.

The phone is a MUST! If for no other than you'll look like a dork without one ;) Just make sure your phone is "unlocked" (check with your provider) and capable of using the local SIM cards.
I always take my own TP. Why? Bescause the local variant is ruff and I'm oh so soooooooft ))))
Most McDs have free wifi. Sometimes you'll find an unsecured wifi within range of your apartment.
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else :)

Not talking about the cheap knockoffs from China - plenty of them in FSU but instead real maglites made in USA.

Think they start around 10 to 25 bucks.

They do like quality.

Your CDMA phone won't work in Europe, throw it away. You need a GSM phone, and a tri-band or quad-band (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) one. If you visit an electronic or phone company store there, you'll find hundreds of different phones.

Download http://odessa.2gis.ru/ for Odessa. It works offline and has maps of Odessa and addresses of all restaurants, museums, shops, etc.  If you can translate and paste what you want, it'll be an invaluable tool.

It seems that Odessa is the only Ukrainian city supported, but it supports numerous Russian cities.

There is always a grocery shop around the corner in the Ukraine. Walk a couple blocks, and there is a supermarket.

If you rent an apartment, it it will have a kitchen with a fridge, so you'll be able to buy food and cook.
