Kharkov March Trip
« on: February 08, 2012, 08:53:32 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I will be going to Kharkov in 48 days. I will be staying for 10 days. I am looking forward to my trip. This is will be my first trip to Kharkov. I have read a lot of information on this forum and I decided on Kharkov for this trip. I will meet a couple of women through the different Kharkov agencies but I am trying the personal add route as my main way of meeting women. I am using Irina from http://www.discover-ua.info/ to place my add and monitor the responses. I am very impressed with her services so far. Irina is top notch and I really like her customer service. I got the idea to try the personal add route and use http://www.discover-ua.info/ from Jerry and his experience with them in this thread http://67.222.30.14/~russian/index.php?topic=9113.msg172724#msg172724.

If anyone else is going to Kharkov in late March/early April and would like to communicate with me send me a message and maybe we can meet somewhere. I still have some things to do but I know what to take and not take. I will make sure to take plenty of winter clothes as the Ukraine is having a very cold month right now. Hopefully by the time I get there the weather will be warmer.

Regards,
Jeff

Where is this place you call 'the Ukraine?'

Is is near 'the France' or perhaps 'the Italy?'

There are only two groups of countries which require the article in English:

Those with plural names such as the United States, the Philippines, or the Netherlands.

The others have names with adjectival or compound forms which require the article, such as the United Kingdom, the Dominion of Canada.

This use of 'the' before Ukraine is simply brain laziness.  Just because USA and UK require 'the' doesn't mean all countries beginning with letter U require 'the.'   8)

ML,

I will refer to Ukraine as Ukraine for now on. Hopefully next time someone posts that you will not jump on them with two posts about it. One would be sufficient.

Update: I edited my first post. I do appreciate the correction.

Jeff

Enjoy your time in The Ukraine. Don't worry the weather will be much warmer by the time you get there.

Chivo,

I hope the weather will be warmer but either way I am looking forward to the trip. I have enjoyed reading all the trip reports posted on this very nice forum by people. I will share my experiences when I get back from my trip as well.

Hi Viperml.

Sorry, it's past my bedtime and I get a little cranky at this hour.   :)

Anyway, read my Kharkiv Trip Report for a list of acceptable restaurants to eat at and other things to do.

But don't present a vibrator until the 3rd date unless it is specifically asked for earlier.

Kharkov's an industrial city, but it's got a few nice places. Everyone speaks Russian, and there are lots of Italian Pizzeria's. Definitely don't drink the water.

Actually, the industrial part of the city is gone. It relies more on academia. With the advent of the EURO 2012, many are polishing on their English. I believe there will be 3 games played there and the first one is on June 3 I believe. Great time to hang out.

Hi there,
Kharkov used to be an industrial city. Now, it is more into science and education, as there are many universities and higher education establishments. There are lots of nice places and wonderful parks and restaurants and cinemas and some very rustic and unusual places in the countryside. Gorky Park, the largest one is under reconstruction right now, so by June, it should be a fun and romantic place to hang out.
One can have a nice and unforgettable time in Kharkov, especially if you know where to go and whom to spend time with ;)

I don't think it's June 3rd Muzh, but I could be mistaken.  I think the first game to be played will be June 7th, and it's in Poland.  At least this was my understanding and the reason why I wanted to be out of Ukraine by June 5th.  If your correct then I did not get out of Ukraine in time.

We will have 3 games in Kharkov.
The first one will be on June 9th at 19:00 between the Netherlands and Denmark
The second one will be on June 13th at 21:45 between the Netherlands and Germany
The third one will be on June 17th at 21:45 between Portugal and the Netherlands. I love football so I know some details ;)

I stand corrected. My MIL told me some time ago and I forgot the first date. Ironically, I did remember the other two.

And i would adviced you to strictly get away from cities which will welcome the event. Prices for a simple night are going crazy more than 500 $.

You are correct Patagonie.     3 room flats in Kiev, $800 a night, one night.   Several guy's from England have already rented three such flats, rented at this price. They say they will have 8 guy's in the flat, each is paying $100 a night.

In Kharkov I have 16 nice flats in the center that I rent out to clients.  Normally these rent for $55-$60 a night.  Last May, May of 2011, 13 of these 16 flats had already been rented, and paid for, 13 months in advance.    I'll have no problem with my guy's in May, but anyone wanting a flat in Kharkov starting around June 10th, and does not already have the flat rented, is not renting a flat in Kharkov.  My friends and contacts have said they have begun renting flats in Dnepropetrovsk, a 2 hour and 45 minute drive by auto, for games in Kharkov. And the price of those flats are going at 2.5 the normal price.

I have been in Kiev, in Dnepropetrovsk, during football games before and it was pretty crazy but this Euro 2012, with so many die-hard fan's from several European countries, Kiev will be a mess, a mad house.  At first I thought about staying, several friends told me they would be able to get me a place, but the more I thought about it, June 5th will be a good time to exit.

Hello everyone,

The good news about the timing of my trip is that it is not during the Euro 2012 events. It might not be the most ideal time to go but it is the time that I will be there. I am looking forward to my trip. Yes, I know not to drink the water. I even know what brand of bottle water to buy when I get there. Irina at discover-ua.com has been wonderful. I thank all the people for posting in this thread as it really is informative.

Wot - they surgically removed one entire part of the city? It's an industrial city - wikipedia agrees with me, even if you don't. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kharkiv

How much would i a 1 bedroom flat in kharkov cost starting from June 17-July 17? I would stay with family, however not everyone is comfortable having a stranger in their home.. I know the last game for euro 2012 is 17th... should i look for a flat now or wait till i get there?

Terran, of course you must begin to look now.

If you want your own flat in Kharkov you'll probably have to go to Dnepropetrovsk, maybe Poltava.

Now, if your saying you would stay with a family for a month I'm pretty sure I can find you a room.  Before I start that process would like to talk with you. Feel free to pm me.

Hello everyone,

It is getting closer to my trip. I will post a TR when I return from Kharkov. I will be flying into JFK and Then I will be on Austrian Airlines with a quick stop in Vienna. Finally, on to Kharkov. I got a really good deal on that air package a few months ago so I took advantage of it. Most of the women I will meet will be done through Discover Ukraine. I had them place a personal add for me and Irina has been wonderful to deal with. I will meet a couple of ladies through an agency as well. I will give details on my meetings in my TR. I have read many TR reports on this very nice forum from many people and I hope I can write one that is half as good as other people.

Regards,
Jeff
