I got rather fond of pelemini covered in mayonaise and always liked those chocolate covered cream cheese goodies sold on the street corner. Yum!

the ex liked Famous Daves.

I'm liking you more and more.  ;D  RW are fun even when they are being difficult.
Seriously! I didn't get it right away, but now it is a "time out"- I cook borsh, fish and something with a lot of garlic.
He is soooooooo good in making cheese sandwiches then.

I am telling you- no American wife can do all this: first I go to some faraway Russian store (without letting him know), then I spend a lot there (charging his card of course), then cook Russian food from what I bought. All  with the face of an angel!
(Nobody told me not to go, nobody told me what to cook).

It is a free country.

Eastern European food is bland.
Generally agree but when you eat bloody chocolate or candy or both for breakfast I guess you need to dumb the day down somehow.

I like Russian food when I am in Russia. I believe it is more "organic" than American food.

I agree with the "organic" part, especially the dairy products and farmer markets.

Thanks. I'm thinking about becoming Orthodox so I have some place to go to practice my Russian. I heard there is no seats in the church. Can I bring a folding chair?

You should go to http://translate.google.com
If you click on the icon in the box, a computer girl will pronounce a word or a phrase for you.

That is too easy. I need to struggle. It burns it into my old brain better. But thanks.

We love Russian, Ukrainian, Uzbek, Kazakh, Bulgarian, and Belarusian dishes. I have officially been designated the borsch maker in our home. When in Phoenix I visit the Uzbek restaurant as it has plov as good as any I've found in Moscow.

Olga, the recipes for Сельдь под шубой and for Салат Оливье that you shared with me several years ago are still favourites. My MIL even likes the way I put together a Salad Olivier.   :)

From my personal experience, the more open-minded, well-traveled and educated the person is the more willing he is to try something new and enjoy it.

The more conservative, stubborn and self-centered the person is the less willing he is to try and enjoy something different.
I've met different Americans here.

Just a personal observation.

Vasilia, I understand your perspective. I have an American son-in-law who I doubt (thankfully) that he'll ever accept my invitation to visit Russia. He and I get along just fine as long as he can remain glued to his TV set/sports. I don't believe that he would "travel well" and think that you know what I mean.
