Zhulhany Airport Kiev

Hey guys, just a quick question - is Zhulhany Airport in Kiev available as a destination from a USA departure or is it only for domestic flights? My UW asked if I could try to arrive there instead of Boryspyl because it's much much closer to her house (15 min drive versus an hour). It's not a huge deal, but after a long flight I don't care much for the drive thru the congested smoggy parts of town. Thanks!

It has international  arrivals, but not from USA.  You could check for connecting flights from USA through the European cities serviced.

I have never used the airport the one time I was scheduled to the plane ended up landing in Boryspol.

Zhulany is closer to the center of Kiev and serves mostly the low cost air carriers such as Wizz Air. The problem is most of the low cost carriers use airports such as Dortmund and Stanstead as the other terminus. A flight from North America most likely would mean a difficult transfer, such as Heathrow to Stanstead or Düsseldorf to Dortmund. In the end I doubt the flight savings would warrant the risk and transfer costs.

Also I would point out that you are traveling at least ten hours to see your friend. Her moaning about an hour in a car seems odd.

Ha! It's actually me doing the moaning, because I will have traveled 15 hours! She would go to ends of the earth to meet me without complaint....she was just offering me a suggestion. I just wanted to get to her house and get settled in ASAP & have always disliked that drive from Boryspyl. Thanks!

My excuses for the assumption. I know the feeling as I am driven from Kiev to Zhytomyr, albeit it with about two hours aloft.
