Other Eastern European Women
« on: March 07, 2006, 07:42:29 PM »
Hi All,

I've recently started dating a Bulgarian women who came to the USA last  year on a green card she won in a GC lottery. She's supported herself  in America by working 2 jobs - seems like a nice girl, but of course it  takes time to get to know someone.

Anyone out there with experience with Bulgarian women (or other EEW)?  How are their customs/expectations of a man similiar to or different  than RW? I ask this question realizing that every woman is of course  unique but general customs/info would be helpful.

Bulgarian men are great at International weightlifting competitions, so maybe the women are used to being around very muscular guys.  How do you stack up?

Also, David Letterman tells a lot of jokes about the Bulgarian bobsled teams.

Sorry, but that's all I know about Bulgarians!!  :-))

File this under "For what it's worth"...

3 years ago - when I first started out in my "search" - I met a gal from BG on bride.ru - I know... I know LOL (gasp) -

She worked as an administrator at a Univ - and was an absolute sweetheart - We struck up a great friendship - and chatted (IM) almost every day - That progressed to phone calls - and then we slated a meeting... Well, out of the blue, she "got an offer" to go to Australia - and so we kinda ended it there... She was older than I wanted (and in light of Letterman's jokes - she did have a little junk in the trunk - but a sweetie just the same) - Point being, she shot VERY straight with me (despite the Oz offer - but we all burn both ends of the candle) - and became a dear friend - She also taught me allot about my "search", the language(s) [BG is different than RU or UA] and shared with me allot about her culture, traditions, family and friends - We'd laugh for hours on the phone and IM - Really great gal... I learned allot.

Fast forward 3 years - I have now moved overseas and back - and had just bought a new laptop, and reloaded MSN/Yahoo IM and her name pops up - To be honest, I had pretty much forgotten about her.... But went ahead and reloaded her name - and much to my surprise, she popped up online one night (about 4 months ago) and we started talking again - just to learn that she had canned the Australia deal, and married a BG guy (10 years older for the record) who is now a USA Citizen living in LAS VEGAS!! LOL - She's a cocktail waitress at Green Valley Ranch (is that right? Haven't been there since they built that one) - Anywho - I asked her how she liked Sin-city and her job and of course America - and she was really happy to be here... She sent over her wedding pix - and seems he's a nice enough guy -

For what it's worth, she said there's a large group of BG expats in Vegas.... So PM me if you ever want to talk to them and maybe gain some more insight -

Bottom line - I found her, her family, her friends to be much more friendly and open than most in Russia or the Ukraine (but of course it's not right to stereotype)....  But to kinda back that thought, my International Travel Agent out of San Fran (whose American) upped and left a pretty good gig to live and work in BG - He claims it's the prettiest place in Europe - and loves the culture and people there - and made the move..... Haven't heard from him since - but assume he's doing well - He speaks fluent Russian - and is well travelled - So draw your own conclusions....

Just my 2 cents and experiences - If I could find another (with a few less Kilos) I'd jump in a heartbeat!

PS: VERY CLOSE TO GREECE - So great Vaca opportunities when you visit!! Cheers...

Bulgarians are sweethearts. Been to Varna on Vac and met with several of them. Nothing serious but most speak English, very friendly and sometimes more easy to get along with than FSU. And they take great pride in caring for their bodies ( read between the lines) for that is worth.

Not to mention, it is a great country to visit.
Tom Hanks in Castaway: You never know what the tide may bring in.
Viking: But you still need to walk along the beach to find it.

I met and went out with a few times an amazing woman from Varna currently living in the states.  She had been here for about 4 years and was just completing her PhD.  She was always a straight shooter and one of the few people that I've stayed in touch with since my dating days.  Of course, we haven't seen each other in nearly a year as she has recently given birth to two very cute twin girls.

Anyway, she was very straightforward, happy, concerned about others, and was an environmental scientist.  Very impressive and fun to be around.
