Mumiy Troll and Dating Locally
« on: March 26, 2012, 02:54:20 PM »
I have a recommendation for all newbies or guys who are thinking about
pursuing a relationship with women from the FSU. This goes along with
the abundance of advice available on this board to save yourself some
time (and a lot of money) and seek out FSUW locally.

This past weekend My wife and I drove up to Los Angeles to catch Mumiy
Troll in concert at the infamous Viper Room. I am no stranger to club
shows in LA/Hollywood, as I have spent most of my adult life watching
bands from all over the world perform in these venues. Likewise, I have
also seen many such shows in Russia with my wife during my many visits
over there. The difference between the two has always been the energy
from the crowd and audience participation. Lets face it, Russian are
just more passionate about showing their appreciation to the artist
then their American counterparts, especially in LA.

Saturday night's sold-out performance was no different. The crowd was
bouncing the entire time and singing along to just about every song he
played. It was a joy to be in a crowd of Russians (mostly women)
smiling and singing along to songs that they grew up listening to and
which reminded them of their homeland.

So how does a concert like this have any relevence to dating FSUW?
Well, if you've ever been to a club in the FSU (or small concert in a
club) you probably noticed that, unlike here in The States, women
typically outnumber men. Saturday night was no different. The ratio of
women to men was, by my estimation, about 4 to 1. There were a plethora
of beautiful young devs between 21 and 35 that were not there with any
guys.

Being as I am already happily married to a beautiful RW, and by her
side for the majority of the night, I did not engage in much
conversation with these ladies. But the opportunities were
there...EVERYWHERE.

I could not and did not resist the opportunity to watch the crowd
constantly. One thing I noticed was the frequency that these ladies
were watching me (I think I stood out a little as one of the few
Americans in the crowd) as much as I was watching them. It did not seem
much different than a club in Russia, where I have been approached on
more than one occasion and asked to dance (that also doesn't happen
here).

My point: Before spending a ton of money and valuable time traveling to the other side of the world to meet ladies with whom you may not find mutual attraction and/or "chemistry", do a little research on the home front to find events which would appeal to a predominantly Russian audience. Concerets such as this bring out hundreds of FSU born devs that might just want to find an American guy who shares the same interests as them.

Mumiy Troll plays regularly in LA and NY (he is playing in NY this week). This time he even made a stop in San Diego (last night at The Casbah, less than a mile from my home). Keep your eye out for other Russian artists making appearances on this side of the pond and you may meet the FSUW of your dreams.

Udachi!

agree completely! We went to Mummy Troll concert locally as well, and had a blast. There were very few foreigners there, and many women.
We also went to the concert of Ukrainian band "Okean Elzy" - not as good as MT, but ukrainians love him. Oh my... the girls were chasing my husband everywhere he went. Finally, as I was standing talking to him, three girls approached, literally brushed me off with their elbows (they were taller and stronger than me) and stood between me and my husband, strong as a reinforced concrete wall, trying to engage him in a flirtatious conversation with their profuse cleavage readily located before my husband's eyes, looooong legs barely covered, prancing on 5" heels. I could not believe this was happening to me!!

Guys, why do you need to travel to FSU? Find a local "Russian/slavic pub"

When do they kick off their Arkansas tour? Jk, but it sounds like a good idea for those of you nearer to the action. Where would one find information about visiting Russian bands? Pretty much the extent of my knowledge of Russian pop music revolves around T.a.T.u., which i like btw.

OK free tickets to the wing-woman, any age, on the East Coast who wants to attend with me to give me cover as to why I am there.

i am usually checking concert schedule on Ticketmaster. Even small local venues often sell tickets through this platform. As for bands - I mostly like the two already mentioned in this thread.
Also Ukrainian band: vopli vidopliasova (VV) - although it's a folk punk rock band:

(super popular among ukrainian youth)

Here is the list of "Ukrainian rock" bands:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_rock
Out of the list only about 5 are worth attention/time, but the rest never tour in USA, so if you find a Ukrainian band on tour in USA - it will be a good band.

Also:
via gra -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5-RvQ1Q0Sw&feature=related
nikita, -
iryna bilyk, -
taisiya povaliy, -
quest pistols -

(more like a joke band) Poyuschie Trusy (singing panties) - the band was formed by the singer of a punk band, who said "band just needs some nice girls/panties, voice isn't that important to make career on stage." So he found cute girls, but with good voices too. The songs are usually either socially or politically provocative, or completely without any sense/meaning - to show that audience will listen to any sh-t as long as girls are sexy. And he was right on all accounts :) Ukrainian public likes this girl-band.

My favorite Russian bands (some of them do not exist anymore):
russian punk groups:
Grazhdanskaya oborona -
Aquarium-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBJshgEdkXs&feature=fvst
Krematorium -

or RUssian rock:
Nautilus Pompilius -
Mashina Vremeni (Time Machine) -

Modern popular russian and belorussian:
liapis trubeckoy -
uma turman -
Zemfira -
Mumiy Troll -
Agata Kristi -
Red Elvises-
Zveri (animals) - - this video is really cool :)
Bratya Grimm (Grimm Brothers)-
Korni (Roots) -

I haven't been following the music scene in Russia/Ukraine in the last 5 years, so most likely there are some new ones.

Zemfira would be a good choice. I saw her a few years ago in Piter. She is one that tours frequently in the USA.

Zemfira sounded great. Her song sounded sad and wistful, but uplifting. She has a great singing voice.

That Quest pistols song sounded awesome! I'd go to one of their concerts just to go. Its not a stretch, I already go to concerts of bands with a similar sound that sing in German, which I also don't understand. Thanks for turning me on to them, I'm gonna go buy some of their music.

I don't understand such bands/singers when they sing in English !!
