Very cool flash mob! Yes it's up at 'Sparrow Hill' or sometimes called Lenin Hill - about 500 meters across the road is Moscow State University - I suspect that is where the majority of that talent came from :)

I remember having the best salted corn cob washed down with a Baltika 7 at the same spot.

That's it in the background at about 4:25.

Excellent find!

I still find it funny that they yell out "Super pooper!" (not available in stores)...  The English main song lyrics can clearly be heard as "super duper!"  but... heh... check out about 1:40 or so where they show the close up of the girls yelling along...

Very cool..

Wife and I loved it !
Remember being there in 1992 when a bride and groom arrived in Cadillac Limo. One of only two foreign cars I saw in 2 weeks in Russia.

A lively, collective revisitation of Irving Berlin's 1929 song, included by Harry Richman in the 1930 musical of the same name, then later in 1946 in Blue Skies with Fred Astaire (and his 10 twins at 3'17";)):

A one hit wonder named "Taco" remixed this song in 1983 where it reached #4 on Billboard charts in USA, so I think the version being performed is an adaptation,of the remake.

Gator, that observation post is very popular as you say. I believe that it is a scene in a least two movies, A Driver for Vera (recommended by the way) and The Master  and Margarita. In the book's chapter On Sparrow Hills, Woland, Koroviev, Azazello and Behemoth said goodbye to Moscow from this spot just prior to rising in the air with the Master and  Margarita and galloping off.

Anotherkiwi, you probably already know this...it was called Lenin Hills from 1935 to 1999 and then returned to the original name of Воробьёвы горы (Sparrow Hills). Very prestigious/exclusive place to live in Moscow.

Both Lenin and Stalin had assumed names, Lenin's real name was Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (he took Lenin as a pen name after the Siberian Lena river) but sometimes he was called was "Sparrow" for secrecy by his bodyguards. Similar to how Iosif Dzhugashvili became called Josef "Stalin" (man of steel) as Lenin's enforcer.

Your quote was actually from Spoon's post, not mine.  I did go there on my first trip to Moscow, courtesy of a wonderful sightseeing tour with lots of individual attention (we had eight people in a 54 seater coach!).  I'm not surprised it's exclusive - it's the only place I saw in Moscow where you can actually look down on the rest of the city!   :usd:

Anotherkiwi, you must have seen the Ostankino TV Tower (hard to miss on the Moscow Skyline) 540M high behemoth, still ranked as the 4th tallest free standing structure and the tallest in Europe. In fact it was the first to break the 500m mark :)

Anyhoo, I was very fortunate to take a ride up the elevator to the viewing deck (@ about the 340m mark, IIRC) superb 360˚ views. We went just before dusk so saw it during daylight hours and also as the light quickly faded saw all of Moscow light up - it was one of the highlights for me, and apparently not many locals even take this tour and many of my Wife's friends said we were fortunate. (Security guard got tired of nagging from my Wife to let the poor tourist through ;) )

Anyhow, security was tighter than a ducks a** - I needed to hand in my passport, was issued with a visitors pass and went through about 3 guard stations, all with metal detectors, before reaching the base of the tower. Here's a nice clip someone has posted on youtube (BTW they have a sort of 'Museum of Towers' and the Auckland Skytower is featured)

Yes indeed!  On my first trip to Russia I stayed in a hotel near the Vladykino Metro station, which is right next to the Moscow Botanical Gardens.  On my last day I spent the morning walking through the Gardens, all the way from the cemetery near the station to the gate at the east end nearest the Ostankino Tower.  Unfortunately the day was rather overcast so my photos of the tower don't do it justice.

Much as I would like to have gone up, it was still closed to the public at that time due to a big fire some years earlier.  Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit on my second trip - maybe next time!
