I should have joined this site sooner!

I was scammed by Olga Orehova, wesdir@yahoo.com. I was just writing as a friend, and she claims to have fallen in love. Please check any girl you contact, no matter what they say. I only joined here after the fact. Oh well my fault.

Welcome Dube.

I have a quick question. How did she scammed you when the two of you were just writing friends?

I sent her money for visa and plane tickets. The day she was going to arrive she wrote to me telling me she needed to show $3000 cash to the customs people to leave Russia. I checked with the airport and they said it was a scam. I confronted her with this information, and she claims it is a closed rule for anti terrorism. She claims to be stuck in Moscow, but I have not heard from her since. She never came. My fault for not joining this site sooner, to know I was being scammed. We were pen pals for months, writing everyday. I had no idea.

Sorry to hear that.

Well, I guess you learned the hard way rule #1; never send money to someone you haven't met.

This is a good place tolearn the ropes. Read, lots of it. Then ask questions. Many people here can give you good advice.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear the classic scam still makes victims. But the numer of women that will visit you first is very low, better plan for you making the first trip if you wish to continue pursuing women from the FSU.

Don't feel too bad, it's a good lesson so in the future you will do plenty of research and think before doing things. Many guys who came to me for help had spent $15 to $25K on internet chats and useless trips to Ukraine to meet prodaters and girls that had never heard of them until a couple of days before the arrival. Educate yourself in the subject and you will never get scammed again.
Good luck, and welcome!

Dude

Sorry to hear that you blew your money to a scammer

How do you know that this girl is real?  You could have been writing to a MAN.  You never saw her in webcam ??  You do not know her home address?

Did you send money via Western Union? using her full name?

Dube,

Just curious, did you meet her on a dating site?  If so, which one?

Why not to buy an e-ticket online?

I tried to get the ticket for her, but she said it was all through a travel agency. I then tried to get the agency's info, but no luck. I assumed it was because I was from another country. I have no idea if I was writing to a woman or a man. I was contacted through Match.com, she was the only one to contact me from all of the singles sites I have joined [14]. The money was sent though money gram, using her name. So I thought nothing about a scam. When the person informed me of the money needed to leave the country, I started to do allot of research, that is how I found this site. Right off the bat I knew I was a mark. I now don't have enough money to continue my quest for love. From what I have researched this happens allot. I have spotted some scammers on other sites, from the info in this site. All of my singles sites are expiring soon and I will not be able to renew them. Fate wants me to be alone now, and I guess that is how it will be. Thank you all for listening to me. When the time comes to do this again I am now armed with valuable info to not allow this to happen to me again. I have tried to post the pictures and story on some of the anti scam sites, but I couldn't get it to load on to the sites. When something is to good to be true it is.

Just picking out a couple of points, as I'm sure the experienced ones will do when they wake up:

...I was contacted through Match.com, she was the only one to contact me from all of the singles sites I have joined [14].

From 14 sites you only got one nibble?  Are you a cross between Frankenstein's monster, King Kong and The Mummy?  There seems to be something seriously wrong with that number!

...When the person informed me of the money needed to leave the country, I started to do allot of research, that is how I found this site. Right off the bat I knew I was a mark.

Well spotted - just a shame it was too late.

I now don't have enough money to continue my quest for love.

Sorry Dube, but this quest is not for you.  You may or may not have had a chance to read threads about the costs involved in eventually getting your lady to your country, but they are pretty frightening.  If the loss of one plane ticket ($1,000? $1,500? $3,000+ if you live in my part of the world) has stopped your "quest" then you simply don't have the money to ever continue.

...All of my singles sites are expiring soon and I will not be able to renew them.

Let them expire.  14 sites is way too many in any case - how can you possibly search seriously through 14 sites unless you are surfing the net for 12 hours a day?

Fate wants me to be alone now, and I guess that is how it will be.

Don't be such a bloody pessimist.  I've been alone for years, but I always harbour hope that my "second half" (or whatever) is just one email (or supermarket trip or gym session library visit) away.  Give up the computer and get out more!

Thank you all for listening to me. When the time comes to do this again I am now armed with valuable info to not allow this to happen to me again... When something is to good to be true it is.

You will learn plenty just by "lurking" here, and it will apply equally as well to your home country as to the FSU.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear the classic scam still makes victims...

Indeed it is... I haven't so much as thought about the old visa/ticket scam in what seems like ages...

Dube, sorry you got bit.  I have a little different question for ya if you're still around...

Had you found RWD earlier, and had the guys here told you, "this is a scam", do you think you would have listened?  Or were you already too deeply hooked by the photos and promises of eternal love and devotion?

when I was single and had an ad on match and yahoo I too was approached by "pretty Russian girls". I responded out of curiosity, but as soon as they saw that I was a Russian speaker they quickly fell out of love with me!  ::) That's so unfair! I have heard that both match and yahoo block Russian IPs, but I guess scammers use proxy servers to put up ads on these sites?

Speaking of blocking, do you think Western Union / Moneygram will be banned in Russia in the future???  If not, then more strict???

I doubt it, scammers are a very small segment of WU users so they wouldn't bann WU just because of that IMO.

ban moneygram?   what did they do?

If you think banning will help, ban the knuckleheads who send 1000's of $$$$  to people they have never even seen before.

When guys stop using the internet to try to meet women, that's  when things will start to become realistic.
But we all know that will never happen.
So this kind of thing will always continue...
There is another one  born every minute.

Thinking that a hot russian girl is going to fall into your lap while you sit at the computer terminal typing love letters is delusional.

If you wanted to blow a few thousand bucks,  go out to a local casino,  meet a nice Keno waitress.
or hell, anything  man,  there are women everywhere.  If you have by passed all the real ones, then maybe it is time to hang it up and get a cat.

Does no one go out and have fun anymore?

Don't answer,  that was a rhetorical question.

sorry Jason, but for the record, I met my wife on the internet  ;D  same as all the guys I helped meet their wives. Internet is not a bad thing but you have to use your head and have enough common sense whether you are on or off line.

You people are right. I was not thinking clearly. I am delusional to think that finding love is as easy as a mouse click. I have learned allot about what to do in the future, and about myself. I have never had to ask a woman out before, as they would approach me. This was when I was younger. I have been in two relationships for the past thirteen years[8y-5y]. Now I am single and older, I find the bars boring. My time is spent drawing, so not much chance to find a woman that way. I do go out to bars, I just take my pencils with me. In time love will find me, and it will be great. I added a picture on my profile so you can see I am more Frankenstein's monster crossed with the mummy, no Kong. Thank you for all your help and I will give updates as to my progress. I have started to save up money so I can take a trip over. I like Eduard's site he has sound ideas about what to do, and I will more than likely use his service when I have enough saved.

Thanks for your kind words! And I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you do go with my service. It would be nice to have another forum member find his love quickly and painlessly instead of spending years on learning the ropes and useless trips. And don't be down on yourself! You are a good looking guy and the fact that you are an artist is also going to help a lot. Many RW really love and appreciate visual arts so this will be a very good topic for conversation and will help you connect with some wonderful women, take my word for it.

Dube,
You are an artist. And you in no way resemble frankeinstien or marty feldman.  You look just fine dude.   What do they say about artists?  If you aren't pretty,  be a musician or work in radio.   LOL.   Is that a portrait of the woman in your dreams?

Sorry if I was a little harsh before, but sometimes a good kick in the ass is what we need to see reality. I think if I cottled you and told you to keep living in a fantasy world, you would not respect that, especially since you could waste 5 or 10 more years before you realized what is what.

I am sure you had no problem getting women.  BUT we are older now and we still think we are 25 and can get a girl of our desires without much trouble.  Probelm is, the outer you doesn't look like the same dude anymore.   I will tell you what woke me up.   I joined Face book not long ago and within 2 days of signing up,  guess who sends me  a friend request?  No, not my mom,,  It was the very first Girl I dated back in JR High.  we were like  15 I think  16 maybe...  I loved that girl a lot, but she moved away and we wrote a little while and then moved  on.  So when she hit me up on FB, I was really curious how she was after all this time and of course I wondered if she was still that pretty girl :)
Well I saw her photo...
That was when Reality Hit me.

I don't know where you will find a woman, but I do know,  If you find one that you can see and feel and touch,  and who lives close to you,  you will be saving yourself a lot of frustration.
I can tell you are a sensitive guy, and that's cool.
But that can work against you if you are looking for a woman in a far away land..

read my Introduction Thread and you will see what I mean....
