Sending medicine to russia
« on: March 12, 2006, 05:21:35 PM »
Anybody have any ideas on how to send legit meds over there? Or is this plain verboten? I was told (dont ask) to send the pills 'a la movies' in a cut out book. Seems ok unless they x-ray. But this would be going as docs which are usually ok . Any suggestions before someone goes to prison?

What are you trying to send?  From experience meds are generally cheaper there and almost anything available here is available there over the counter.

If it's legit then you should check with customs as to what information they need from the prescribing doctor to allow for it to legally enter the country.

Any other way is not legal and should not be advised.

I was told that the quality of prescription medicine is poor over there and sometimes not effective. What I want to send is nothing fancy and very legit. Just better.

Ummm, not sure about that.  In Ukraine at least, almost all of the medication is from western europe so I don't know if what you are hearing is true or not.

Before you go comitting yourself I would get the manufacturer of the current medicine being used over there and see if truely the US medication would be better.

As to legit, if you are going to circumvent the customs regulations by hiding it, then it isn't legit and can end the reciever in jail depending on quantity and type of medication.

That is absolutely right regarding meds available in Ukraine. I take a  number of them first prescribed stateside (e.g. Avapro, Norvasc,  Digoxin, Lasix) and my doctors here have continued them. No problems at  all obtaining what I need, and prices are quite reasonable. The meds  are produced both in Ukraine and other European countries (Bulgaria,  Romania, France.)

We stock up in RU and bring common meds back..  A lot cheaper than buying here.

Sure, there are counterfeit products everywhere but haven't run into any so far.  Doctors usually know where to find the good stuff.

My wife regularly sends her family some over the counter meds (Aleve and such) to her Babushka and never had a problem.

Just put them in bottles with prescription labels and include the mongraph stuff they give you at the pharmacy.  Send it out without bothering to tell anyone what it is and the worst you can expect is a slight delay at customs.  As long as it's not drugs like valium, amphetimines, or those kind of 'abusable' drugs it should be fine.

I've sent myself, and my wife medications at least 5 or 6 times all over the world and the worst I encountered was a 1 day delay in Hong Kong while customs verified the medications.

Do not attempt to conceal it, or hide it from customs.  That is just begging for a problem.

Oh yeah stuff a tissue inside the bottle so the pills don't smack around during transit.

Ukrainian customs is acutally a bit more strict than that.  I know of a cases where the medicine is held until a letter from a local doctor is recieved by customs, even though there was a prescription label on the bottle identifying the recipient and there was a letter from the US doctor.  In that case the person was better off just buying it in Ukraine and found it cheaper anyway.
