Although I agree with you in principle I became a lot more cynical about the difference in the last few years. If you've been watching the news lately you could see how our tax dollars go toward financing both Lexuses and mistresses as well as expensive trips, luxury hotels, etc. etc. So IMO, in a way, it's all the same.
People are the same world over. We do have a better system of checks and balances in place here but it seems to be breaking down fast.

I can't say about Russia, however more and more chats I have with Ukrianin women lately are mentioning how difficult it is to find jobs.  Several of them also have indicated that their college educated sons are unable to find work in any field.

Seems contrary to the stats the Ukriane goverment is putting out about their economy.

The way our taxes are being used and abused is another topic. Point is that hardly any business in Ukraine pays official taxes on their profits. They'll hide as much income as possible but they can't hide them from their "roof".
 

That is what you get when there is no rule of law. I would say that is not the case in this country.
 

What I'm saying is that logistics aside all business owners are slaves to their business and all have to "share" part of their profit. It's universal.

Are you suggesting that business owners just stay home and watch money flow into their offshore bank accounts? Of course, but that would not be legal which brings us back to this pesky damn thing of the rule of law.
 

Some might argue that it's easier to make serious money in the FSU. But maybe not with the new presi in Ukraine since his gang seems to have been putting a squeeze on independent businesses, kind of like what Smirnov did as a presi of Prednestrovye.

Several posters here were discussing, for the most part, Ukraine.  Lots of Ukrainians do not pay taxes.  Even successful Ukrainians often evade paying taxes they should.

Now, unlike you, many of these posters are married to Ukrainians and travel to Ukraine, some fairly frequently.  Some lived there for extended periods.  So they don't need you to tell them they have been "smoking" something when they hear the stories, in weekly calls, about what is going on in Ukraine.
