Yes, I have a friend named Natalia here.  She is originally from Kiev.  She met her American husband about 10 years ago while she was on vacation in Egypt.  They both thought it was just a good time affair, but missed each other and eventually got married.  he is from Arkansas and has the very nice southern manners and mentality.

Welcome and read around. If you have any questions post them and they will be answered.
Answers may not always be what you wish to hear, and the people answering may disagree about the right answer.
If you survive here, your chances of surviving RW are above average.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Ghost is  joking..........well, I believe she is. :)

You can never tell outright when a RW is joking.   You must examine the context, the person and still guess.  In the case of Ghost, she is very gentle and genteel,  not having a mean bone in her body.   So I know she is joking.

RW humor is not silly.  They enjoy wit, irony and  especially sarcasm (it helps deal with the difficulties of FSU life).  You will know  if you lay an egg.  There is no polite, sympathetic snicker.  Just a look of stern disapproval.   I love RW sense of humor.   Keeps me on my toes.

There are a few really nice people on RWD. Moon goddess is one of them. Joking most likely. The rest of us often not so kind as most don't really care about your feelings. We do more educating and enlightening  ;D

I'm a little surprised the chihuahua didn't bite you though. Perhaps his mood is docile.

Take little personally, keep an open mind and remember even the experienced disagree the most and welcome to RWD

Ha ha!!  It's Italian, or it was.  perhaps it was changed?  I don't know have not researched it.
Magenta was not used in Italian as a colour name until comparatively recently, our term for it is/was fucsia.

Fuchsia magellanica
Quote
Magenta dye (1860)
Before printer's magenta was invented in the 1890s for CMYK printing, and electric magenta was invented in the 1980s for computer displays, these two artificially engineered colors were preceded by the color displayed at right, which is the color originally called fuchsine made from coal tar dyes in the year 1859. This color is closer to red than to blue. The name of the color was soon changed to magenta, being named after the Battle of Magenta fought at Magenta, Lombardy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magenta

The reason given above is rather obscure, unless it was an oblique reference to the copious quantity of blood spilled on that battlefield :-\. Apart from being the location thereof, the small rural town of Magenta (now with about 20,000 inhabitants, some 20Km SW of Milan) is rather nondescript and with no other claim to fame.

Magenta's coat of arms and church of St. Martin

Many Italian Jewish families adopted city names as surnames, after being compelled to change by sundry local laws and edicts.

thanks Sandro, you must be the resident genius of the forum.  although I am not Jewish (at least not now) perhaps my fathers ancestors were named after that city.  He died when I was very young so never knew the story.

As you probably know Joe Montana is Italian but I think his name originally was Montanelli or some such.

Erikmagenta,

It was indeed my "Welcome!" joke, inspired by Mr. Bean's hilarious answer given in the "Blind Date" sketch.  Since "Bean's" signature humor has been universally popular over many years, I presumed that you would easily recognize it. Sorry it lost on you. Well, next time I'll try to remember to add emoticons.

Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding  :'(

I have appreciated the joke  (it was clear from the context) though have no idea about Mr. Bean's answer. I would say the humour style was rather unexpected from a women :)

It is boring when you must explain your own jokes, especially if the joke is a good one.   I too find it depressing to be in a room full of people and come to the realization that I am the smartest one there. Thanks Moon for tolerating us.

Erik, you will discover that many RW are very intelligent and unique.  Ready for that?

Yes, I have a great sense of humor myself, but I find that it does not always come accross in written form.  I find that I can tell when a lady is joking by her tone of voice and her facial expressions.  So much easier to tell these things in person.

Also, I used to watch Mr. Bean years ago but have not seen him recently.  His previous humor seems to me was more a physical type of humor.  I do not often watch British shows anymore, but if she or someone else has a link to the sketch would gladly take a look at it!!

Hi ErikMagenta, and Welcome.

LOL  I see you are off and running with the gang here, First comment that you have a gay name lol.
I think it's one of those gay guys names  who are cool and come over and remodel your house for free :)

Vegas Is a very apt comaparision to RW Dating,
It does have a strong allure, for entertainment and romance.
Also, if you go there and play your cards right, you can come home a very rich man :)
On the otherhand the hype and lure of the bright  lights and glamour is quickly replaced by the reality
of what really goes on there if you talk to the locals.
You can also go there with big plans, and leave with little money. It's all about the gambling, parties and trying to out hustle - the hustlers.
It's all good thou
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, what happens in the FSU rarely does the same.

GhostOF Moon Goddess
That was a neat trick :)  especially since Mr. Bean's main hook is that he is a Mute.  LOL

It does seem to be an art form to be able to tell a great smarty-pants joke with only text.
It helps to have visual aids

Unfortunately they don't seem to have been cunning enough, or I'd be one of the OMBs or committeds.  Maybe I should change my name to Baldrick.  >:D
