Meeting someone in Punta Cana
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:51:08 AM »
I know I will probably get flamed but I have a question.  I have been communicating with someone for several months and we have not met in person.  We were going to meet in May but I had to cancel due to a serious family illness, so I needed to reschedule for June.  Do to the Euro Soccer Matches prices in Kiev have gone through the roof.

I was thinking of meeting my girl in Punta Cana for 5 or 6 days.   She can get off work and it is not a problem and the expenses to me are about the same.  What problem issues do you see with this proposed trip.

We have been speaking exclusivley on Skpe since February.  For a few hours everyday.

I'm pretty sure she will enjoy a nice vacation in the tropics. Make sure you do too.

Has she asked you to send her money for her tickets or are you purchasing them for her?

No reason to flame, it is your call. For her its a nice time away in the tropics, and she will have to trust you not to be a psycho murderer or slave trader.
You will have to trust her interest is in meeting you, not in meeting your back pocket.

Remember that if it goes well, you will still have to plan a trip to see her in her home environment and meet her friends and family.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Yeah no need for flame but, definitely your call there guy. Just the fact that you asked the question indicates you are somewhat aware of the possible pitfalls and landmines. You say you have been exclusive on Skype for a number of months? Is this with no third party involved? No agency or terp and you have been communicating well?

She is fluent in English. Meet her through an agency but we have been on Skype since March.

Then it would appear your eyes are wide open into what you are doing.  There is always a degree of risks but if "you" are comfortable that it is minimized and it fits your comfort zone, go for it.

If she does not have a Schengen VISA I believe she is allowed transit through only one airport in the Schengen Zone to Punta Cana. You would need to look for more direct flights is all.

Notice everyone is saying the same thing. An opportunity for her to have a good time vacationing. Just make sure you do too.

Any girl can fly through an airport such as in Paris for connecting flights(with restricted area) without a visa through to DR. It may bring up a problem in other airports in europe.
I was under impression that girl would need her own booking of flight and hotel to be allowed in DR, maybe I am wrong. This is what I had done a couple years ago for a girl from Ukraine.
Have fun in Punta Cana...where are you staying?

The only thing I would warn you about is using an online site or an American travel agent to book her flight.   They will tend to transit her through the USA and that is not permitted.   There are lots of flights to there and other destinations in the Caribbean that transit through Frankurt or Paris.  Make sure you book her that way.

Staying at Iberostar Grand Bavaro Hotel.

Stayed there with a RW (Cossack Woman).    Yes,  excellent beach with palm trees.  Large protected cove where you can sail their catamaran, so calm that the RW can do it.  Turns them on.
At night they have a large Latin band (I guess 12 or more instruments) with singers and fine looking dancers.  Golf course sucks, but they have mini-golf.    They have an outside grill at the far end that grills all sorts of seafood for lunch.  Dine under the palm trees.  Very international with relatively few Americans. Huge place.  Party atmosphere.  There are several different adjoining Iberostar hotel complexes all connected by little trolleys.  It works.    Casino too.

My fav is Majestic Elegance!!!! Enjoy!!!

Been there too with a RW from the Artic Circle.   Their lobby bar is glorious, and makes the best mojitos.  First class.  They upgraded us to a luxury suite at no added cost!!!   Restaurants much better than Iberostar.   However, not as active as Iberostar, and many Americans.  More for romance.

I have been to DR twice with my ex-wife from Moscow.   She brought her kids so we stayed at Club Med with mini-club.   She loves the place.

I was on the first plane that departed the newly built airport in the early 1980s.  Long time ago.  Just one hotel in Punta Cana then.  Club Med.   I won the tennis tournament in a stroke of sheer luck - good draw, a couple of lucky net bounces against the runnerup, a German.

Get the picture?  You will have a great time.

Of course she will show.  The ability to advance a relationship via Skype over 3 months says that the two of you are compatible.  Enjoy.  Easy airport  to meet her.  Just stand outside where all the arrivals exit.   Is she taking a plane from Ukraine?  There are charters from Russia - Condor Airlines.   If yes, you will see the UW in their holiday clothes and talking their language.  There will probably be some Russian based tour guides waiting such as from Taz.

Gator, it sounds like the OP just booked online a flight for girl based on the $1400 price, which is similar to what I found for plane flight.
Thanks for detailed info about DR.........Gator, sounds like you have some nice times. Have you ever ventured to north coast, Puerto Plata? Did you hear anything about the golf course up there, Playa Grande Golf Course?
Seems some putting greens near the edge of cliffs. ;D

Correct. I flew my wife through Paris direct to Punta Cana. I believe any airport with restricted areas are fine as long as it is not multiple layovers within the Schengen Zone. I booked her flight and there were no issues. You just pay the 10 or 20 bucks entry at the airport in DR.

The only thing I would warn you about is using an online site or an American travel agent to book her flight.   They will tend to transit her through the USA and that is not permitted.   There are lots of flights to there and other destinations in the Caribbean that transit through Frankurt or Paris.  Make sure you book her that way.

This was the biggest PITA for us. Most flights layover in Miami or NY so finding a good one to the Western Hemisphere was tricky. Maybe an airline will offer direct to destinations in Brazil or Mexico now that they have opened up.

None. I always advise the honeymoon before the wedding and even before the first meeting. Not visiting in her hometown also gets you past the irritating problem of running into her husband or boyfriend by accident.

Actually, I always thought this FSUW thing was backwards when you think about it. Normal relationships start when you meet someone( in person)that interests you or vice......then you date and get to know each other, then see where it goes. Normal FSUW relationships start with a picture and some words and get to know each other through emails, phone calls and now video...well before you ever meet in person.....
so the honeymoon first........ maybe!!!!!!!! :cluebat:

All above things make sense. I dont know if the OP has purchased tickets yet. If the itinerary is Kiev-Paris-Domincan then she will have zero issues
with transit in the airport.
One thing to consider when buying the woman's ticket.
The good news is the the "old days" of needing to book a flight thru a FSU travel agent are no longer applicable (unless she needs a visa).
So you can book and purchase tix however you like..(Orbits etc).
Make an effort to see if you can book THE ENTIRE WAY ON ONE AIRLINE rather than piece it together yourself.
For example, my EX had a ticket with Condor, a huge charter airline which flies from Frankfurt to the Carribean.
Her return flight was delayed 6 hours.
All connecting flights back in Europe were then useless and Condor took no responsibility for the lost cost of those flights.
If I had known to book the connection (even though it might be Ukraine Air) thru Condor, they would have covered the delay expenses
(which were considerable).

Good post with the cautions outlined.   Thanks.

However, one question remains.

Why is it that there is no problem flying through Paris, when apparently  it is impossible to fly through the USA.

Both France and USA require visas for FSU folks.  So how can you transit through Paris and cannot transit through USA.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
