A lot!

in no particular order...

not too old, not too young (i'm old)
home owner (with mortgage)
affectionate and attentive -check! (wait, what did you say?)
good cook- check !! well the dog certainly thinks so!
open minded- check! except on things i'm not ;)
adventurous, optimistic and energetic -  Truly a 1400 to 1500's  ship captain at heart.
healthy - you can't truly be all of your list and remain completely healthy 24/7 , so a dab of reality needed here ma'am ;) but yes generally very healthy
honest, faithful, devoted and sincere- da da da (why do Russian speakers say it three times more often than not?i like it for some reason, but don't understand the habit..lol)
good kisser - don't know..
strong physically and mentally  - i'd like to think so ,most healthy men are.
confident  -same as above.
responsible - same as above
generous- da
good listener -da
has warm smile -  heh my wife melts,  but maybe its my brand of mouthwash?  :-\
athletic- yes
has well paid job- they could all pay better
passionate - absolutely-  but remember that extends to all aspects of life, work, family, travel, hobbies, etc.. be careful what you wish for? Most women want that limited to one field-romance- and that's just generally not the case for a passionate personality..
devoted- yes
not afraid of challenges and has ambition to succeed-  heh again be careful what you wish for, a challenge to me is Everest, or other such nonsense. Most women arn't into letting hubby actually challenge himself ;) understandably as many such things can get into family budgets or more importantly *time*, but most don't think their *list* through  to its real conclusion ;)
respectful- yes, absolutely, but tend to be flippant if given reason.
owns a white horse -  no. Do you know the monthly  stable fees lately? you could have a nice white Audi R8  for that price.

 >:D :D

To the OP,
just be yourself..
there are millions of women in the world..,
if you really want to give RW a shot , why not?
but be sure it isn't for some reason like all  AW are horrible (they are not)

Just be sure of what you really want in a partner , and be confident in who you are and what you offer as a person.

Don't-
worry about other western men ,or where you stand compared to others looking..

Do- recognize it is a more difficult path, not an easier one, and be mindful it does take a certain minimum of financial stability to travel there to know someone, and to get someone safely relocated here and supported while they get their feet, and your still budding relationship, off the ground.

In the minds of Russians the West is associated with more civilized and cultured behavior. Whether it turns out to be true or not in each particular case is another story.  8)

Yes for civilized, no for cultured.

I never thought that the West was more cultured.  To the contrary the two RW with whom I spent years together are highly refined in manners, tastes, arts (especially musical and literature), etc.  The one from Moscow remarked how most American men who come to Russia seem uncultured in their attire, dining, general knowledge, and interests.

OTOH, some encounters shocked me such as a medical doctor chewing on the end of a large piece of meat dangling from her fork.  Somehow I tended to not meet many such women.

Civilized?     Separate issue as this includes the whole civilization rather than individuals.   Let us ignore the rule of law and examine behavior.   The West indeed seems more civilized than the fray one can witness just walking about the FSU.  Littering, drunks and open container drinking, queue manners, public urination, police attitude, fighting, loud arguments and cursing, aggressive driving, rude shop workers, rude government workers, dirty trains, etc.

Add to that such nonsensical beliefs that ice is bad for your health, moving cold air can kill you, etc.

One FSU gal was convinced that she got her urinary tract infection from riding in an air conditioned car with me.

In reality, she got it from large doses of sex.

Umm... That's the perception anyway, and USA is not the entire West... That's what they are looking for, doesn't mean they'll find it. There is a fantasy on each side of the pond.

That's probably the most helpful bit of advice that anyone can give to me on this site.  The other things probably more relate to dating in general, but for AM's seeking FSUW's, the financial means to bring a girl from another country to your own is really the most important.  I imagine that going from Eastern Europe to Western Europe would be cheaper than if you're from the US, Canada, or Australia or New Zealand.

Also, another important pointer is that these girls are looking to get married.  If you're not ready to get married, then you would be wasting their time.

I would much rather date a women who was 'open to marriage' than one that was 'looking to get married.'

Through my travels and life experiences I have found that typically women are marriage minded. Normally, they are just very selective of whom they marry. Men, not so much  :D

But, that's what I keep getting from them.

But, it kind of makes sense.  Long distance relationships don't work out so well over a long period of time.   And, if these girls were to come to your country, especially if your countries are separated by oceans, then they need some sort of assurance that they will be taken care of.  After all, they are risking alot just by coming here.

That makes sense.  Does the same apply to the women.  I think I would catagorize most of the single guys going to the FSU as "looking to get married"

Of course!

Looking for marriage is way too often looking for trouble IMHO.

This might apply to some 18 or 19-year-olds in Russia, and women with kids in their 40s and 50s. Finding a woman between the ages of 25 and 35, who was not married and does not have children, yet is merely "open to marriage" would definitely be a rare occurrence IMHO. Does not mean that a woman would marry any man, but most would be certainly seeking marriage :x

No, I think that you misunderstood what I said.  It just seems more appealing to have a girlfriend from the FSU than to get married to one after knowing them for only a few months.

Not only much more appealing but highly encouraged, by most. ;)

Okay, then my saying that "I'm not sure if I'm ready for marriage at this point in my life" shouldn't upset anyone, right?  That's completely normal and understood by these girls, right?

Otherwise, it seems that these girls want a guy to fly over to them after 3 months, so that they can get to meet them.  And, also point out to me that long-distance relationships don't normally work.  That I would have to bring them here at some point.

But, can I just bring her here without getting married?  What about her visa?  If she's not employed or a student, then how is she going to stay?

I think you should be very honest about "not being sure you are ready for marriage.  Otherwise it may upset someone greatly.   Some women may dump you immediately but others won't and it would be very wrong to have somene give up a signifigant part of their life under false pretenses.
You can try and get a tourist visa.  It's possible but not automatic.  That would let you bring her here for a while or you can meet in a third country and have nice vacations together.  Another option is if she is of school age you can bring her here on a student visa.  The last option is if you want to try to break BillyB's record you could adopt her.   :cluebat:
