A question for British users
« on: July 30, 2012, 09:21:57 AM »
Hi there,

I wonder if any of you could answer a question for me? I'm trying to work out which Ukrainian dating websites are most popular with British users? Are there any agencies based in the UK?

Looks to me like most are very US-focussed.

Thanks.

P.S. before you all cotton on to the username I should highlight that I'm researching for a documentary - though not the sort of hatchet job I'm sure you're all used to seeing on TV. I'm much more interested in the perspective of the Ukrainian girls themselves, and I'm trying to establish which agency might be best to get in touch with.

Welcome ronachanfilms,

for that angle I would start at the airport in Kyiv...  Look for women with flowers and go from there. Also watch for guys that get off the plane and seem quite 'lost'... as if the person they are meeting did not appear.

Can't get any more objective than that.

Good luck!

The market is so small in the UK that there will be no one agency/site that is 'most popular'.

However, if you want a specifically Brit perspective, we have a media page >here<. Despite the page being US media oriented, I am a Brit currently in the UK.

Edit: Although Laura, you never answered the email I sent you as a result of your topic >here< that you made as 'documentarymaker' on the 21st June. Which makes me kinda think that you don't *really* want the real situation; rather the usual media 'exposé' of sad old blokes chasing too young women.

Forums such as this have seen that many, many times. It isn't new.

I would venture to guess that 90% of Ukrainian girls do NOT currently have their profile on a website, so I would not visit a website. I would come live here, and spend a year here meeting normal, wonderful, honest Ukrainian girls. Many girls have had their profiles on websites and then removed them. Those are the girls that you might be better suited to talk to. Or, just come visit one of the men who live here like myself or a few others on this site. I have lived in Odessa for more than 3 years and could introduce you to hundreds of Ukrainian girls with a varying range of interests, personalities, and opinions on the whole dating and marriage experience in regards to foreigners. Some of my favorite girls here absolutely refuse to date a foreign man even if they are attracted due to their perceived differences in thinking from one culture to another.

Good luck with your project. Also, I do have two friends that came to Poltava and Nikolaev, and Odessa a year ago, one of which is still here, who have shot hundreds of hours of footage for a documentary as well. You might want to interview them and see what they found.

This implies that the UW on webpages are not "normal, wonderful, honest Ukrainian girls."   This is the case with some of those listed on webpages, yet I met many fine and sincere UW and RW via webpages.  And there are many bad FSUW not listed on webpages.   My  Cossack woman's sister works at a women's prison and based on the stories I doubt the incarcerated were ever on a webpage.

UW not listed on a webpage will have a different and not necessarily accurate perspective regarding foreign men.  For example, I was discussing Russia with a contractor who has done many repairs and projects at my house.  I was explaining how my Cossack woman prefers and misses many aspects of Russian life, other than her friends and family.   His response, "Why?  I understand that Russia is missing so much.  They don't even have  good toilet paper.  America is far better."  ;D

It would help if we knew more about ronachfilms' objective and thesis for the intended film.

In contrast many of the UW on an agency webpage have a broader perspective, and have given some thought to emigrating.

I believe the two guys' original perspective (making the documentary) was to make money with it, but they never finished it for one reason or another. The one guy bought out the other guy, and now that first guy is on a jaunt through eastern Europe, posting every day on Youtube.

I must agree with you that it is possible to meet good, sincere girls on websites, So, your point about my implication is taken positively and your point is acknowledged and noted as a good one. I also believe that a documentary not taking into account girls that have had their profile on a site and taken those profiles off, or girls from the general population who have never had a profile on a marriage or foreign dating website would be incomplete in my opinion.

While I do agree with aspects of your statement, I do believe that not taking into account other points of views could end up being more of the same that has already been produced. I could go on, but I don't think it is really important here. Your point of view is a good one. I acknowledge that.

Thanks for all your replies.

Why specific Ukrainian ?

Because of Ukraine's visa-less travel arrangements with the UK, the popularity of Ukrainian-specific agencies is on the rise. So we're interested in that angle partly as a way to bring something new to a tired format.

I'm not Laura here! Though I understand the presumption. I'm Jamie, the development producer at Ronachan Films (http://www.ronachanfilms.co.uk/people). If you take a look at the films we've previously made it should be clear that we're not the sort of company that indulges in tabloid hatchet jobs. In fact we're particularly well-regarded in the UK for the relationships we build with our contributors. So I apologise if Laura gave you that impression.

I am also from UK  (Portsmouth).  Many agencies are America-owned, and therefore focus on American people, but it is not necessary only for American.

If you research well, you can find it in the google and look up to see which agencies, and so on.

Best of luck

I am assuming from your English usage CDW, that you were not born (or were not schooled) in the UK. Your grammar structure suggests Indian subcontinent?
