Hello

I know it depends on the person but I am wondering how women from the FSU are personality wise in general, how they view the world and other countries and races.

Are they very materialistic?  Snobbish?  I keep thinking of the scenes of the Rage Against the Machine Video for Guerilla Radio(those of you who have seen the video know what I mean, plastic people)

Do they have a view of how America really is or do they have a white washed Leave it to Beaver view?
Do all forms of music reach there?

Are they going to hold their purses if they see someone of another race person walking down the street?
Are they going stereo type the other races in a bad way?

Can they chil lax? Strange questions but I want to know. How do they feel about places such as the US, England, Canada, etc where there is a mixing of everything, its cultures, customs?

Do they express themselves openly like Americans? or are they reserved like the English( well some of the English)?

I am wanting to know in general how some are. As I said before I know it depends on the person.

Good questions! It's almost as good as asking "How long is a piece of string?"

I know you're probably too busy, but usually folks just read the past threads and topics, or at least 'search' for topics, to fill their research. But I guess you can't be bothered...so here's notables to add to your material...

Confuseman says:

"Man who wants pretty nurse, must be (a) patient!"

Squirrel who runs up woman's leg will not find nuts!"

This one is a good one. I like it! Very forceful with its point..

Well  actually I have spent the about 4 hours today and more the other day trying to find things.  So these are the questions I ask. Different culture, different people. I do know much about it. If I cannot find the questions I am looking for it is best to ask instead of presuming things.

I am here to learn and have understanding. So giver your thoughts please.

No, you don't know much, you just know what you've read and apparently much of it is wrong. The questions you ask are generally a good indicator of where you are mentally. Now, I could play internet psychologist but I won't. But I will give you a quick skinny. FSUW put their panties on one leg at a time just like other women the world over. They think much like other women the world over. They are not from another planet.

Race is an issue to the culture, not to all FSUW. Speaking in terms of generalities, your appearance will make an initial difference to many FSUW. Some will look past it, others will not. Just like your local women. If you are not very successful with local women, your chances with FSUW are only slightly better.

I suspect most anyone can garner a degree of interest from the agencies and dating websites. Especially those willing to pay for it from the agencies. Your posts/questions reflect a degree of insecurity. Granted, I could be misreading you. Insecurity has a tendency to turn off the sincere women and turn on the insincere ones. The sharks will detect and perceive insecurity as chum underwear.

FSUW are as different as the other women you know. Attempting to generalize or stereo type is more of a disservice to you than to them. Your seeking information and this is a good sign. Don't accept any of it as the holy grail. None of it is

Just to address a few of your questions.

Yes, FSUW are materialistic on average.  And more so than the average AW.

Yes, FSU people are racist on  average.  It is not a full blown rage type of thing, but it is right there just a tiny bit below the surface.

Yes, the average FSU person will speak their mind.  Most here refer to it euphemistically as 'being direct.'  But that is just sugar coating it.  THEY ARE RUDE.

I think with all the TV coverage and so many of them traveling back and forth now and passing the word on to friends, family, etc., they are having a much more realistic view of what America is like.  Very few of them now think  that all Americans are rich, etc.

= = = = = =

One interesting sub-topic.  I recently asked my Gal why the FSU folk think that most Americans are stupid.  She said that actually in Soviet times, the common folk did not think that Americans were stupid.  They sort of looked up to us, despite the communist rhetoric.  It was only after the fall of SU when larger numbers started traveling to USA and even living in USA and raising their children here that the word started filtering back to FSU about the stupidity of Americans.  This was mainly due to the fact that their children were far ahead of the American kids in their math, etc.

Yoshiii,
I'll try to give you some useful information based on what I believe you might be asking.

I presume that you're looking for marriage and that you'll try contacting FSUW using agencies and the internet.  The thing you should keep in mind is that the FSUW who advertise themselves on such sites already know they have nothing to lose.  It costs them hardly anything and they'll have men write them, visit them and spend money on them.  So you can easily see that this will attract the most greedy, materialistic and status oriented ladies that the FSU has to offer.  So be prepared to sort through all of this to find that one gem of a girl that you can marry.

It would help if you have dated in your own country so that you have experience in knowing when a woman might be genuinely interested in you or whether she wants you for your wallet.

Are they very materialistic?  Snobbish?

Short answer: Yes.  They are very materialistic.  At least that will be your perception, but it is partly to do with how Russians perceive quality and how they present themselves is very important to them; Much more than in the west.

They will spend extra for good quality while we tend to hunt for bargains in the west.  They don't mind paying extra for good quality.  And they will present themselves well because they know they are being judged by others.

Do they have a view of how America really is or do they have a white washed Leave it to Beaver view?

I presume you mean day to day life in America?

They don't think we all live in mansions, but don't believe that she will be happy in a double-wide trailer either.

They also know that we have easy access to cheap credit.  This is very dangerous information in the hands of the wrong woman.

Do all forms of music reach there?

Yes, Russias have heard all our music and it's played very frequently on the radio in Russia and TV.  They also have their own artists producing Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, Heavy Metal, etc.  Look up on You Tube and you'll get the idea.  If anything, get to know their celebrities.  I've found that this impresses them.

Are they going to hold their purses if they see someone of another race person walking down the street?
Are they going stereo type the other races in a bad way?
Unfortunately, yes.  There's was no Civil Rights Movement in the FSU or the EEOC.  Racism seems common there.  If you're not Caucasian.  You may have a difficult time finding someone unless you go to the more "ethnic" enclaves in the FSU.

How do they feel about places such as the US, England, Canada, etc where there is a mixing of everything, its cultures, customs?

The FSU is a mix of different cultures and customs also.  And many FSUW have a friend living in the west already or knows a friend of a friend who does.  So I would say that they don't seem to mind.

Do they express themselves openly like Americans? or are they reserved like the English( well some of the English)?
They are deffinately more reserved from my experience.  A lot of this may be the language barrier, but a lot of them won't open up until they know you very well.  But they will treat guests very well.  So if you are ever invited to someone's home, it is a big deal so be respectful.

On the other hand, Russians are gaining a reputation for being obnoxious tourists from what I'm gathering in the travel industry.  It might all depend on who you meet.

Good luck.

It's nice that ML and Chemist tried to answer your questions without belittling you or telling you how naive you are.  LOL.

To add a little more explanation to ML's response that FSUW are rude, I will add my observations.  FSUW do not see their communications are being rude.  It is simply how they communicate with each other and is driven by their culture and language.  I have noticed that many FSUW that have learned the English language have also picked up the "style" of speaking in English and communicate in a much more friendly manner.  It is an issue of not only learning the English vocabulary and grammar but also how to convey the thoughts in a "friendly" style.  ML is correct in that the FSUW do communicate in a direct and no-nonsense manner.  They do not mince words.   LOL

Another observation I have made about the personality of FSUW has occurred over the past several months.  The past year, I was dating and communicating with women only in the age group of 40+.  The past several months I have been communicating with FSUW in all age groups.  There seems to be a generational difference in personalities that appears to be split somewhere in the 30-40 age range.  I have no idea for the reasons for it, but after exchanging emails and Skype calls with a  hundred or so women, it does seem to fit a pattern.  The women in their 20's and early 30's that know good English seem almost like talking to an American gal.  Generally the women above 40 are very direct, stern,  and oftentimes appear rude even though they have a grasp of the English language.  There are a few exceptions, but this is a general observation I made.

It would seem to me that you might want to focus on learning the cultural differences as much as you can before going much further into your quest.  There are many threads on the forum that deal with specific parts of the culture and behavior.  It is a very time consuming job to ferret out the wheat from the chaff, but worth the effort.

I would suggest first reading the excellent E-Book on this site.  Also, be sure to read all of the appendix at the end.  The book is advertised on banners at the top and bottom of each page.

Another free E-Book that compliments the one on this site is available from one of our commercial members that can be found here:
http://europeandreamconnections.com/

Good luck  on your venture.  As ML and Chemist have indicated, there is a lot to learn before ever getting on a plane.

Yoshiii,

As you say, the answers to these questions depends upon the individual RW and individual RW vary widely.  You need to recognize that the answers also depend upon your perspective and that of the RWD member answering you.

Consider your question about materialistic RW.  If you are materialistic, you will have a different opinion about RW than if you are a minimalist or a Buddhist.  And if I enjoy the fine things of life, I may not consider RW as materialistic.

I suggest that you start corresponding with some RW and discover the answers to your many questions from the source, the RW themselves.  If you need some help in getting started, then ask for some help.

FSUW do not see their communications are being rude.  It is simply how they communicate with each other and is driven by their culture and language.

It may be driven by their culture . . . but it is still rude  behavior and there is simply no excuse for it.

For instance, let me give one small example.

I have one very slight physical deformity.
In USA and other western countries, no one has spoke about this to me since way back when other 6th graders mentioned it to me.

But SEVERAL adult professional FSU people have pointed it out to me . . . as though I didn't know it existed.

We need to stop calling this (and all other such examples) 'directness.'

Call it what it is . . . the epitome of rudeness and poor manners that is widespread among FSU people where ever they are now living.

But Gator, you need to go one step further in your analysis.
Compare the constant (yourself) with the variables RW and AW with respect to materialistic.

Let me give another example, not exactly about rudeness, but perhaps related.

Have you ever noticed that in USA we often pull for the underdog, while in FSU they mostly pull for the superior person.

We have extensive services and help for the handicapped,  whereas in FSU their attitude is such people should simply stay home.

And my Gal, almost perfect, but . . .

We went to a theater performance.  To get the audience more involved, at intermission, we were to vote for the homecoming queen from among the 4 contestants in a high school themed musical.

I voted for the plump gal as did most others (she won), while my Gal voted for the most attractive.

She couldn't understand it when I said that we vote for the underdog.

She said these people simply shouldn't enter such competitions.

+1

The point is that we've all (or nearly all) been in the same position as yoshiii.  I know that, in my case, I had never seen this forum or anything like it before my first trip to Russia.  Had I done so I'm sure that there are things that I would have done very differently on that trip.

It was the same when I started posting on here.  I know that there are times when some of the US members yank my chain because I don't think that they live in the greatest country on earth, and I can understand that, but I don't see any point in flaming newbies just because the answers to their innocent questions are:

a) really obvious to anyone who has been to Russia and/or Ukraine; or
b) already on this forum (buried in any one of the 70,000 threads which, of course, we all know off by heart - NOT).  I know that I searched for one item on this forum quite a while ago, and came up with 15,000 references.  No way am I going to check 15,000 things when I'm sure that a current poster knows the answer!

Everyone has to start somewhere.  Yoshiii has actually asked some quite sensible questions, especially since he recognises that you can't generalise about everybody from a particular culture or country.

Well  actually I have spent the about 4 hours today and more the other day trying to find things.  So these are the questions I ask. Different culture, different people. I do know much about it. If I cannot find the questions I am looking for it is best to ask instead of presuming things.

First point - that's a lot more than many other people have bothered doing.  Second point - so are we all, except for the married know-it-alls who forget that they were once in a similar position.

I only have very limited on-the-ground experience of the FSU compared with many on here, so the only points I would comment on would be rudeness (I agree with ML - much of what many FSUW consider as "straight-talking" is downright rude to someone with my background and upbringing) and the fact that most (obviously not all) women do seem very reserved until you have been talking to them for quite some time.

Yoshiii - I wish you good luck in your search, wherever it may lead.

I also thought it was funny that you were unaware of the age demographic on here and were talking about Rage Against the Machine videos here, like they are commonly watched by many of these guys.

Noel,

I agree with you that getting on a plane and experiencing the culture is an excellent idea.  If someone spends the money to travel to the FSU without first knowing the culture or having a wingan is likely to feel like a fish out of water.  Hence my suggestion to learn all you can about the culture first so that you have an understanding of what you experience.

Even with this level of effort, it is still likely to be a culture shock expecially if you leave Kiev and go out to the smaller cities and villages.   LOL.

Everyone has to start somewhere.  Yoshiii has actually asked some quite sensible questions, especially since he recognises that you can't generalise about everybody from a particular culture or country.

Did he really? These questions have been asked ad nausea literally hundreds of times. A search or a surf of archives would reveal those and the ad nausea answers. If he recognizes the problems of generalizing, why would he ask the generalizing questions? Why should the experienced segment ignore the idiot factor of such questions. The guy is looking for answers to his questions. Admirable and I understand that, I gave him some along with something else to think about. It's blatantly obvious when a new inquisitive poster's mind has absorbed overload the mantra from the agencies website. Where does the correction start, with a slap on the back and an atta boy or a firm dose of reality?

So the single know-it-alls remember all to well the feeling of being ignorant and the married ones do not? Is that your point? It has nothing to do with being married or having ample on the ground experience here does it? Very often guys who come and post such questions overlook the one basic element of FSUW and that being it is when everything else is cut away, it is still boy meets girl. Those seeking short cuts from "normal" relationship building will likely at some juncture have their ass handed to them. Shouldn't the inquisitive minds here seeking information know that or do we just validate their fantasy suspicions with another slap on the back and another atta boy?  :D

Are they very materialistic?

Some are. Their society tends to equate 'stuff' with status.

Snobbish?

Possibly. Russians tend to think they are the greatest nation on earth. Rather like Americans do actually.....

Do they have a view of how America really is or do they have a white washed Leave it to Beaver view?

Most have a pretty good idea of what the US is about. Warts and all.

Do all forms of music reach there?

Yes.

Are they going to hold their purses if they see someone of another race person walking down the street?

Probably. That isn't unusual anywhere in Europe.

Are they going stereo type the other races in a bad way?

Most are what an American would consider racist, yes.

How do they feel about places such as the US, England, Canada, etc where there is a mixing of everything, its cultures, customs?

The UK is a very popular destination for Russian speakers. The US and Canada are often seen as too far away, especially if they are thinking of easily being able to visit family in the future. However, many live in the US so they obviously overcame that.

Do they express themselves openly like Americans? or are they reserved like the English( well some of the English)?

They tend not to make friends in elevators, so you might consider them like the English in that regard.

Most are what an American would consider racist, yes.

The UK is a very popular destination for Russian speakers. The US and Canada are often seen as too far away, especially if they are thinking of easily being able to visit family in the future. However, many live in the US so they obviously overcame that.

They tend not to make friends in elevators, so you might consider them like the English in that regard.

You have developed a sense of humor.  I like that!!

Re: How are FSU women personality-wise and about the world and other races?

What you seem not to realize is that newbies come here to ask questions and get pointed in the right direction to seek answers.  The caustic comments that great them is not a way to keep them on the forum and acutally get the answers they are looking for.  The old timers obviously get annoyed by the same questions over an over.  Give it a break!!!  Younger members with actual feet on the ground experience do not mind helping the newbies and are not annoyed by the questions and do not need to make degrading comments to them.   You have no idea how many newbies are driven off by the the kind of caustic greetings they get from the 'Know it all' members that are not  friendly to their requests.  We get emails and PM's as they leave and say they will not be back.

Nice post Cal.  I have to agree with you.  Having been here for 7 1/2 years, there is not much that is asked that hasn't been asked before if someone searches instead of asking questions.   Every so often age difference comes up and the same arguments are thrown out that have been discussed a million times before,  Every so often the ratio of men to women comes up and the same stuff gets thrown out again.  If everyone just searched instead of asking we would have a pretty dead board here.   There are some who were driven off by blunt answers to their questions that perhaps RWD is better off without but I also agree that some newbies may show themselves to be very nieve in their posts but many just don't have experience or have been brainwashed by big agency hype and can turn out to be a real asset to RWD once they get their head on straight if they are not driven off by rude comments.
