The best name to choose is one that will be equally able to work in Russia as in Australia.

Some names (though they may be loaded with references)
Boris
Dimitri
Vladimir
Denis
Joseph
Sergey
Daniel

Wish that everything is going to go well!

Excellent idea, Shadow!

The boys names that came into my mind are: Albert, Alexander, Alfred, Andrew, Antony, Edward, Michael, Mark.

The name Theodore (Федор/Fyodor), which means God's gift, tops the list of my favorite boys names  :)

All the best to a Baby, Mum and Papa !

Might as well add Amadeus/Gottlieb (loves God), if his first cries will show some musical aptitude ;D.

The street where I live is called "Via Adeodato (God given) Ressi", but that is rather a mouthful. Equivalents are Teodato, Latin Deusdedit and French Dieudonné.

It depends on what surname you have.

You do not want to call him, for example

Andrei Safin   or  Marat Shevchenko

I am an X-MEN called "WOVO Man"

I/O, you might consider Timothy. It's a popular name among Russians as well as in the West. And it is an old name.

Eduard: We already have Eduard, our oldest son and no, he doesn't yet wear a beard. BTW, Timothy is on the list of boy options.

ghost of moon goddess: Interesting suggestions, similar to Mrs I/O's thought train, particularly Albert and Alfred are high on her list of 'boy likes'. Theodore is our close friends sons name so unfortunately, we probably wouldn't go there although it's really nice.

Sandro: Our family name is very German and certainly my direct ancestry is thus, however, if one really studies it, it is not pure and in fact probably goes back through East Prussia and ultimately to the modern day Belarus - there's Morovskis (sp?) not too far back. Nevertheless, Gottlieb was my great grandfathers name and like it though we both do, perhaps it would restart the great patriotic war if we went down that road?  :o

Shadow: I'm banking on 10 days early if she's true to form and that gives me 2 weeks max.  :-\

CDW: Excellent observation - thanks for the reminder.

Ranetka: Neil - Nil, Russian, interesting.

newjason: Mathias is pretty close to my first name which, if this is a boy, he would have for a second name and Robert is my second name - perhaps we should just reverse my Christian names?

Old enuf?
BC: S'pose we could use Enoc - apparently near as old as the world itself.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments so far - it all adds some thoughts and yes, it does need to be something which works in both countries or at least, that's the ideal outcome. Another little minor challenge, bubs second name, if in fact it does turn out to be a boy will be my first name, in my case it isn't spelt (or spelled for the 'Muricans) strictly correctly - which to use, the correct spelling or my spelling?

I would go for non-standard spelling.  Makes your child more unique . . . even as he will be correcting other's spelling the rest of his life.

At times, I sort of have to hand it to the black mothers who come up with interesting spelling for their children's names.  Just watch football, basketball, etc., games and you see this in action.  Whites aren't so creative, most of the time.

If you do go for one of the Russian names, I'd suggest spelling it in English the way it is pronounced, rather than the screwed up way the official Russian-English translation dictates.

Names like Irina and Ivan give their holders a heap of trouble here in USA.

If you want your girl to be called Erena, then spell it that way.
Same for Evon.
