Apartments in Kiev
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:21:20 PM »
I plan to make another journey/vacation to Ukriane next week after Labor Day.  I have looked on line and find thousands of listings and hope that someone with recent experience can save me some time by making a specific recommendation.

Since I will spending about 6 weeks in Ukraine in various cities, the cost of daily flat rentals can add up fast.  I do not need a fancy place.  Are there any recommendations for Kiev with the following requirements.

Low cost.... $50-$70 per night.

english speaking manager available by cell phone.

Fast Internet

Kitchen & washing machine

Double bed.

Within easy walking distance to Independece Square.

Secure.

Free pickup at airport desireable but not required.

Thanks,

You can also PM me with responses if you desire.

Doug, I've offered this link to others, and it fits your requirements in every detail -

http://www.kievhotelservice.com/index.html

Airport pickup is free if you stay for 7 or more consecutive nights.  The apartment you want is this one -

It's close to Mikhailivskiy Cathedral (100 metres) and, as the blurb says, you can see the domes from your bedroom.  The apartment is behind the Continental Hotel and across the street from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so your chances of getting burgled are pretty slim!  It's about seven minutes down the hill to Independence Square.  I've attached some of my own photos.

The agency manager, Oleksandr, will talk the hind leg off a donkey (in English!) - he must be Irish-Ukrainian.  The only problem you might have is that they prefer reservations well in advance, and may not actually have anything available if you're going next week.

Good luck!

Thanks for the references including the PM's.   Looks like I have enough info to solve the problem.  It saved me a lot of time, thanks again.

Doug, unfortunately almost all sources of apartments though out Ukraine and other FSU countries are not as reliable as we might hope.

Even those who have provided good service to some persons here in the past are not above less than honorable practices on a situation to situation basis.  And this applies to Western men and women who are running rental agencies in those countries.  Something in the air or water gets to them fairly quickly.

So don't get your hopes up too high.

After arrival, you may be told that the apt you saw and negotiated for is now suddenly unavailable because of a, b, c and even x, y, and z.

Good to plan as much as you can, as you are doing, but try to have backup plans for apts in the same mode as you have backup plans for women.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
