No IMBRA form completed- Need advice
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:09:24 PM »
Hello guys. I'm not sure if this is the correct location to post, but it seemed the most logical spot since it relates to the K1 and IMBRA. (Please move if its not).

I recently (August 2012) met a Ukrainian woman through a local marriage agency in Kiev. I had no prior correspondence or contact over the internet with her before meeting in person.  i.e. we met face to face at a restaurant for the first time with the agency owner introducing us.

Once I returned home I realized that I never filled out an IMBRA form. I went back to the company website and noticed they do not even mention it.

I haven't asked her to marry me yet, but she is coming to the USA in a few months with a P1 Visa.
If our time together goes well I plan to pop the question.

I am concerned that not filling out an IMBRA form will come back to bite me if she applys for a K1 later.

There is a question on the I-129F (#19) that asks, "Did you meet your fiancé(e) or spouse through the services of an international marriage broker?"

Is there anything I can or should do now to prepare for this? If it helps any, she is listed through another marriage agency that is compliant with the IMBRA.

Thank you for any assistance or advise you can offer.

Don't worry about it and don't lie to the USCIS.   You won't have any problems.  I have never heard of them checking or asking if the IMBRA form was filled out.   They do ask if you met through a Marriage agency but just saying yes and giving them the information about how you met will have you in the clear.

Maybe it is not an "international" marriage broker because you dealt with the agency and met the woman, in the same country?

They are still an international marriage broker.   Their business is matching local women with foriegn husbands.   There are some of the smaller agencies who don't pay much attention to IMBRA thinking the USA won't be able to touch them which is true.   The larger agencies and the ones affiliated with one of the larger US agencies pretty much have to.

The answer to the question on the I-129f is "No"
