More K-1 and other document questions
« on: November 11, 2012, 03:31:00 PM »
From what I can find from visiting various sites, including Visa Journey, this looks like the list of documents / items needed.

 -        Payment in the amount of $340.
-        I-129F
-        I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18, explanation of meeting in person [ONLY IF USED ADDITIONAL SHEET]
-        G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)
-        G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)
-        Birth certificate/US Passport (Petitioner)
-        Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner and Beneficiary)
-        Proof of having met in person in the past two year
-     Proof of ongoing relationship
So, one needs a G-325A for both persons?
All of the above is submitted at the outset with the i129f, not later in the process?

I assume I need a physical passport photo (not electronic / scanned) for her?

If I understand correctly, this must all be done through the mail.  There is no way to submit online scanned documents?
Thanks.

Some people get through this tedious process on their own and I admire them.  I chose to use a professional company that processes thousands of visas a year, because I wanted to make sure it was done correctly, plus they have the experience to know what works best as far as documents submitted.  It was expreemely painless and everything was done via email from both myself and my fiance.  For a little extra, they will assign a Russian speaking agent to work with your finance and they will communicate in Russian via email and telephone.  We have some members currently using their service and I will give you their names if you PM me.

If you choose to continue to do it on your own, keep asking questions because there will be lots of them.  LOL

Knowing which documents must be translated is important.  If she is in Ukraine for example, some documents will have to be translated from Russian into Ukrainian since that is now the official language of Ukraine and all legal documents are in Ukrainian.  (at least it was that way last year).

Best of luck to you and your fiance.

Just went through this process not to long ago.  Did not use an attorney, but did look at the visa journey web site often.

If I remember correctly, I did submit the G-325a for both of us.  Also submitted many different papers along with the initial i129f application.  Not sure if it is the exact list you have, I do remember making a checklist and checking off each document, it was a fairly thick packet I sent in.

Good Luck

Yes, and yes.. though you will need not one but two passport photos of her, they can be an identical set, submitted with her G-325A. For the CR-1 we also had to submit two additional new(er) ones later with her visa application.. You may not need that step with the K-1.. I don't know..

Unless something has changed within the last year, electronic document submission is unavailable for Ukraine. Don't know about Russia.

If either of you have been married before, you will need a copy of the divorce/annulment agreement. If she has a child/children, you will need additional documents. You need quality photographs of you and her together. It is not difficult, but you need to pay attention to detail.

An attorney only charges you for the time of their secretary at a high rate. They also make mistakes that cost you extra time and money.

I agree with Wayne.  Using a lawyer will not only add expense but it will delay the process.  You are on the right track doing it yourself and VisaJourney is a great reference.

Visa journey is THE place to go for this type of information. They have guides which explain, in detail, what you need to do. Your question is answered there. Please re read the guidelines.

I just started this process this weekend filling out the g325a for me and her and the i-129f,  visa journey has the answers you are looking for and you can also type whatever question you have in the search box there and usually come up with a good answer.  My g325a was quite simple for me to fill out and I decided to fill out the one for my girl myself because her English isint great.  I put her on skype on my ipad and did the form on my laptop and used google translate to ask questions and make sure we were clear on everything.  I thought it would be rather simple but you will discover how quickly the language barrier comes into play when trying to decipher the addresses and last 5 years of employment.  It took us about 4 hours to get through it and we are still not 100% complete because she needs to get her work book to verify her employment dates.  After we got so far she had her English speaking friend look it over and make a few corrections also.

I submitted no pictures (or letters or Skype transcripts) with the K-3/CR-1 and have had friends tell me that they also did not include pictures when doing their K-1's. Maybe it strengthens a weak application but it doesn't seem to be an essential.
