Greetings from Russia
« on: December 02, 2012, 06:49:01 AM »
I think I have to introduce myself now after posting a message in Jason's thread and getting his invitation  :)

Ok, I'm Daria from Russia. My story is very much like those of other RW disappointed in RM, so I decided to give international dating a try. And here I am, trying to learn what the WM really expect from us. Of course one can never generalize, but still I hope this will help me understand the men better, and having read several threads I must say it's an interesting place here anyway.

If you have any questions to me, I'd be glad to answer them :)

Welcome Daria. Sometimes it seems understand men better wil not help you but the opposite...
Do not try to 'meet' expectation but find someone that you can be on the same wavelength with. As a wise man once said, do not look for the best but for the worst habits of your partner. If you can live with their worst habits, the rest will be easy.

Hello Shadow, and thank you for a warm welcome and for your advice.  :)

You're quite right about finding someone on the same wavelength with me (I hope I will!), but still understanding is a good skill to obtain as men and women will always be different in many ways, let alone the cultural difference if we take a WM/RW couple. It doesn't mean I wll change who I am or try to seem 'better' than I am (God forbid!), but I'll try to understand the men's point which is I think a key to patience and makes life easier.

Thanks Daria!

I am only faintly familiar with **edited**. I do not recall anyone joining or contributing from that area. It's great to have you here. Please offer up some discussions or feel free to join in any that peak your interest. Your English seems particularly well honed, have you studied it long?

Heya Daria,

Welcome to the forum.

Seems you have a very good attitude going into this possibility.  Patience is a major component of this.  Cultural differences are minor factors but the mentality differences can be polarizing at times.  Your English level seems to be quite good and is definitely a plus (if you meet a man from an English speaking country, and even if not, English may be your 'common language' at first).

... As a wise man once said, do not look for the best but for the worst habits of your partner. If you can live with their worst habits, the rest will be easy.

And those worst habits often don't show themselves until something jostles them.  When you "shake" a cup, whatever is inside spills out.  People are the similar.  So it is important to be with a person through some disagreements, etc, and see how they respond to "life" when not on vacation in fairy land.

Sense of humor and the ability to *find* humor and laugh at situations that will arise can make a world of difference as well.

Daria,

 :welcome:
Many of the men at RWD are married or committed.   However,  several claim to be looking for a RW wife.  You will discover from reading posts at RWD that the attitude and experience of WM  vary widely (the same as RW vary widely).

What do WM really expect from RW?    We need to contrast expectations and hopes.   I will try to explain my opinion of expectations and hopes for a reasonble, sincere and decent WM.

Expectations:  A man expects he must travel to the FSU to meet RW.  He expects to meet RW who are younger and prettier than his typical date with AW. If he is visiting only one RW, he expects that he must spend much time with her in correspondence and Skype.     During correspondence and the actual meetings, he  expects  there will be cultural and language differences which will make it difficult to know a RW quickly, and in fact may create more misunderstandings than typical with AW.   He expects that he will need to spend much time getting to know her, yet his time for travel is limited.

Hopes:  He hopes to connect with a RW whose values (religion, family, sex, education....) and goals (work, children, lifestyle....) are compatible with his.   He hopes that their time together is both interesting and fun.   He hopes that somehow sufficient love (mutual love) develops quickly to warrant marriage.

Thank you, guys, for your warm welcome!  :)

Hammer2722, thanks, I will participate if I find my opinion might be useful.

Faux Pas, I've been studying English for several years now and am glad you like it. :)

Daveman, thanks for your reply. I think a man and a woman should both make a contribution to their relationship and want to start making mine right now, before I actually meet 'the one' for me and get an opportunity to make silly mistakes.
Yes, it is quite important not only to learn how a person reacts to possible disagreements, but also to learn to put up with them and not to give up on each other during the hard times. As for humor, I've looked through the thread about the funny mistakes Russian women make when using the English language... well, humorous situations are just inevitable here! :)

Gator, thank you for explaining your attitude. I've noticed most men here are happily married or committed and I'm glad to see thus that a WM/RW relationship can work out.
It means I'm probably on my right way.

Little_D,

Welcome to the forum.   You have a very positive and realistic attitude toward your goals.  I suspect that your attitude and command of English will make your journey of love much easier than most FSUW.

Somehow I suspect you are under 40 years of age.  lol

Best of luck to you.

I've noticed most men here are happily married or committed . . . .

Generally they are committed (to a mental institution) after some years of marriage!!   :o

Because you do not come across as an angry, bitter, sarcastic personality.  LOL
Also, your thought process seems to be logical.
You will be received very well on this forum.

I agree, it would be nice to see the rest of your face.  LOL

Good luck on your venture.

I know better than to guess a womans age.  LOL
For sure in the 20's.

That's a more encouraging guess :D And definitely a better one than 'under 40'.  ;D

Little D,
I have underwear older than you  :D
You look about 17 but I would venture a guess in your early 20's. Maybe 24
I just base that on your approach. You come across as intelligent, well read and interesting. Not to mention very attractive. Some of these younger whipper snappers here would do well to capture your interest. Good luck to you

LD, your hair is too long.  You need to cut off one half inch; then we can better assess your age.
