Krivoy Rog
« on: December 24, 2012, 09:42:22 AM »
Howdy folks...been a while.

So, looks like I'm FINALLY going for a trip back to the Ukraine.  This time, however, it's not going to be the easy "Just get off at Borispol and take a cab to Kreschatik" LOL

I'm going to travel to Krivoy Rog.  I understood that there were regular flights from Borispol to Krivoy Rog, but looking at the airport site, I only see flights from Moscow (and they were cancelled).  Is there a problem with this airport?  Maybe it's the weather? I'm planning on going late February.

I guess the other options are train or bus.  I thought train would be a lot faster, but doesn't look too much better.

What do you figure as the "easiest" way to get from one to the other.  I'm not overly concerned about speed... more about it being "tourist friendly" since my Russian is (still...after three damn years of studying!) pretty basic...

Thanks

Easier (according to the natives) to fly in to Dnepropetrovsk and get transport.

I believe Dnepropetrovsk is the closest airport to fly into from Kyiv. You'll have to take a taxi into Krivoy Rog which is not very far.

But is Dnepropetrovsk an international airport, or does it have to change at Kiev airport for a domestic flight?

It may be an international airport, but you will have to change planes somewhere.  When I went there I changed planes in Vienna.  I came in on Austrian Air.  Great flight.  You can look on Skyscanner and it will give you all of arriving flights and where they are from.

Only 150kms !!  Road is good with dual highway in reasonable condition much of the way.
DNE does get international flights . When planning trips guys ought to consider flying to airports other than Kiev --it can be quicker and cheaper.
The options are to taxi--or bus--or rent a car.

My understanding of Krivoy Rog airport is that it smaller aircraft or charter flights (not national or international flights) that use it.

Non-stop flights from Vienna on Austrian Air for sure.  Don't know of other international flights.

More flights out of Vienna but there are nonstops from Moscow and Istanbul also.....very long connecting flights, especially on return flights. If flying to DNK, maybe it best to fly into Kiev and get room at airport hotel and relax...
