Getting drunk once is not likely a cause for being discarded.  However, to lonedrake I'd add that were I an indivdual who drinks to excess, I would never, ever get drunk in a foreign country.  Too many risks.  Still, you made two trips, which is more than many accomplish, you learned a few things, and perhaps learned something new about yourself.

LD,

Entertaining T/R.

Now you know why some FSUW are listed with MOB agencies -  good RM avoid them.

You are making a wise decision to forget her.  And you were honorable with how you ended it, not kicking her out with no way home.

Next time, do not protest 20 grivna.   It makes you appear stingy/cheap,  triggering the magic term  "greedy man." an unforgivable sin.

I never encountered a RW who would drink to excess as did your Eva.   And in the morning and straight from the bottle!  Also, I never encountered a RW who would order whiskey.  Swedish women like whiskey, but not RW.   The RW favorites (starting with most favored) IMO are wine, cognac,  an exotic cocktail, and vodka.  I did introduce mescal to my ex-wife and it immediately jumped to the top of her list.

Sorry about the time delay and the extra money for the flight problem.

LD, I have to ask.

Maybe you said it earlier and I missed it, but how old is this woman?

...Finally she lets me go and I make my way to customs I am still alive

Lonedrake, I have read your report about your trip to Ukraine. It's a pity that you had such an experience wasting your time and your money. When I was reading ( not yet being registered here ) I thought that it was not a good idea to visit that woman again. She didn't seem to be a woman for you. You wanted to make sure and you have done it. A bad experience is the experience anyway. And now you have no doubts about her. I can say that there are a lot of nice women in Ukraine. And I suppose you should try again. I wish you the best in it. Be lucky!

When it comes to dating, nobody has to waste their time. One of the first two girls Lonedrake met dumped him in two hours and the other within a day.

Maybe those girls initially went out on a date with Lonedrake because they liked the way he looked but didn't connect after talking to him. They moved on quickly. This is one thing guys can learn from girls. Don't waste time. Move on if something isn't right.

Hey...no feeling sorry for me :crackwhip:   I had a much better time than my report would suggest. I am happy I went back to see her. I do not consider it a waste. I learned we are not right for each other with out doing any crazy like trying to marry her.

A guy from Ireland who was sitting beside me on the flight from Amsterdam(he actually married an AM woman) told me that Thailand is the place to go. He highly recommended it over Ukraine. Not sure if I am going to look into that or not.

I actually feel really good about myself. These two trips have given me the confidence to know I can basically go any place in the world if I choose to. I will probably make a trip down to Argentina this summer to go on a dove/duck hunt. But...more likely I will go back to Ukraine. This time I will have the knowledge to make better choices.

There are no tears or regrets from me.  I even followed through on my promise to complete my trip report. I hope at least I get some respect for that :welcome:

So I am going to skip the logistics of getting there.

I arrive at Donetsk airport and Eva was standing there waiting for me. More beautiful than ever. It sure was nice. After some hugs and kisses we took a taxi to apartment she had found in Donetsk. I will not go into much detail of the first couple of days. Everything was wonderful :clapping:

Wed morning I woke up at 6am. Just one of those days I should have slept till non as we went to sleep around 4am. But I could not sleep. Today we were going to Eva's house. I was somewhat concerned as she had been reluctant to let me see her place. She had told me she was embarrassed about her place and had been working hard on it the last week. I let her sleep till 9 or so and we went to the bank to exchange  money and get something to eat. There was a pub right there so Eva suggested we go there. No problem.  One thing that concerned me was she ordered a glass of whiskey.....but not a big deal as it was kind of a vacation. I do not drink to much and am leary of women who do. Something to keep my eye on.

It was when we got the bill that I made my first  mistake. Total bill was around 240 grivna. I just put in 300. Eva saw that and took out 40 or 50 grivna and said that is too much. Ok.

We ended up taking a taxi to her place and the total was 580 grivna. I gave the guy 700. Eva asked me how much I gave him....so I told her. I knew right then this was a problem. "Why you give him so much? He would kiss you for 20 grivna. Why do I look for good taxi prices for you and you just pay 120 grivnas extra? Why do I even bother?"

So my advice for those wondering about tipping. If you think a woman will be impressed by you giving a big tip.....think again. They will just think you are stupid! ( i realize there are exceptions)

This did come back to haunt me :wallbash:
your posts are honests and this good for newbies.

First newbies when you are in taxi, before arriving, ask DISCREETLY to the woman to ask to the driver what is the price. This is the best to get correct prices.
I don't know which distance you have done but when the driver asked you 580 grv i would bet that you have been rip off of 500 %. The maximum i have paid for an honest price is 110 grv for a round trip from girlfriend home to airport and return to our appartment (probably 35 km), so you have paid probably between 500 and 1000 % of the price.
To go from Boryspol to the center is around 170 grv (and it is minimum 30 kilometers trip).
So of course, i imagine her fury when she discovered that you had let 120 grv of tip on an initial rip of of minimum 500 %. She was just impressed by your stupidity with money, in the long term such behavior don't impress ladies.
Checking where is Donetsk airport, even if your lady is in the opposite of the airport, even outside the city it is a maximum of 20 kilometers, maximum 120 grv i would say.

Unfortunately it happens, and it happens very often. Just Lonedrake is enough courageous to come here and tell us his truth, i thank him. Not a lot have this courage.
I also encourage him to continue, persistence is a real key of the success. Don't give up fellow !

About drink Lonedrake :
Genuine girls will test you about this : your drink you fail, (you will be ditched like a hot potatoe)
The others ones will drink with you for a variety of reasons.

What you do now is an investissment Lonedrake, you are getting some experience. Ukraine will be familiar for you. I hope that now you are ready to consider the VM (visit many), because you will give up if you have the same results during the next two trips.

LMAO

I got beyond hammered, actually poisoned, on my first trip to meet my wife. AND she was an involuntary accomplice.

Last thing about taxi :
If you ask the girl to ask and the price is anormally high :

1/ the girl is accomplice to the taxi.
Get out and leave her in the minute

2/ the girl don't take care of you or is totally disabled from the brains.
Get out and leave her in the hour.

IMO, no.  One would think life on the Range would not work; however, for some odd reason, a large number of hilltribe people from Vietnam were relocated there.  On one trip to MN I recall the fish and game commission having  arrested one Hmong for having about 10,000 pumpkinseed fish, all about 3-4" in length,  in his van.

My vote if I had a vote.  The people have a Latin-Euro style but something else too, and that something else is especially good.  Besides, Spanish is easier to learn than Russian.

About the taxi, it was from Lugansk to Donetsk. So 580 UAH was a good price for a round trip. The distance is about 160 km one way.

Sharing your trip report is sure to help someone although things did not work out for the best. You deserve more respect than a man who had a successful trip to the FSU and shares nothing educational.

One thing newbies can learn is that they could spend thousand of dollars and limited vacation time and get dumped by the lady they're visiting in a matter of hours. A guy once wrote he got dumped in less than a minute. Girl showed up to the first date and after she looked at him, she turned around and walked away. Always have a backup plan.

Lonedrake, although you say you don't have any regrets, I'm sure you can admit some mistakes. Your goal is to get married and yet you wasted too much time with a woman that wasn't right for you. For every minute you spend with the wrong woman, you lose time with the right woman.

That is a good attitude, lonedrake.   I would suggest that in the future, you focus on women who speak enough English that you can communicate easily.

Not many venture to Lviv but I hear good accounts from the few who did.

In a discussion with my Gal, I noted how the Dating Websites have 'relatively' few women from Lviv and that area.

She said it was because many, many of the women born in that region have already moved abroad to the nearby countries for work.

Perhaps Boe can comment more on this.  Didn't you spend a lot of time in Western Ukraine Boe?

No, mostly in Kyiv.  However, I have traveled there quite a bit, because my family is from Western Ukraine and I feel more at "home" there because the language is closer to how I speak.

Yes, it is true, in Western Ukraine, far, far more Ukrainians go to Europe, and even North America, to work abroad illegally.  The abandonment of children there is very high as well, because of this.  Many Western Ukrainians have relatives in Canada, and come here to work illegally.   They used to go to Toronto, living 10 in an apartment, but now they tend to come more to the Western provinces, although it is less so now than it was five years ago.  Western Ukrainians have also been emigrating for over a century, more so than in Central Ukraine though of course, that stopped in 1945.  Another reason for fewer Western Ukrainians is that until recently, internet connections were not as common in Western Ukraine.  But, in some ways, they have a more "independent" attitude.

The situation there now is very dire, has been for more than five years, which is why more websites have cropped up.
