Everything worked out very well. My wife thought the paperwork would take four days to complete.  She says together we are magic. Now she thinks the CR-1 visa will only take three months.

Good luck with it but, don't count on that. I expect the government shutdown to affect all of the processing but of course I could be wrong. If you haven't already visit www.visajourney.com for the proper information, help and direction in getting it done. AFAIK the CR-1 processing time is the same as a K-1

From what I understand the main operation is funded by the fees generated so they will all be working. However, it will slow it down due to other agencies(fact checking, records etc) not working.

Our application has been received. I will send out for tax records next week so I will have then when needed.

I haven't been to the USCIS site to see but, I'm guessing they're closed. It's a non-emergency governmental agency

The USCIS time is about the same for a CR1 as a K-1. However, the time at NVC takes longer because they collect all the necessary documents and schedule the visa interview. That way, you already know all the documents are properly done and submitted when you go to the embassy. Don't order the police report from Ukraine too early; it is valid for six months. If your wife lived in any other country, she would need a another police report that will take much longer to obtain.

Good Luck!

Has anyone noticed the change to the application process for the CR-1/IR-1?

Now they require some of the same proofs of an ongoing relationship as you usually need for AOS.  Things like property in both names, a joint bank account, utility bills in both names.   Now this strikes me as a little absurd.   You go there and spend time with a woman, decide at some point to marry her there and of course in most cases she would never have been here.   So, without a SS# how do you get a bank account in both names?  How do you put a property in both name when she has never been here to sign the paperwork?  To me that might be one good reason to go the K-1 route rather than the CR-1 / IR-1.

We have some acquaintances locally that went the CR-1 route. It doesn't sound much different that the K-1 as far as the paperwork goes, listening to him describe it. However, if they are now asking for the AOS paperwork, that is quite different of a spin. When we did my wife's AOS for both the temp and permanent the list of documents was quite extensive

To me it would be a lot easier to do the stuff they now ask for after the woman arrives but it strikes me as not being an easy task when he is here and she is there.  My son is getting ready to do an CR-1/IR-1 soon and I was looking to see what had changed and was surprised to see this.

This was the same when we filed. I think that stipulation is for expats who marry while living abroad. I really don't know for sure but obviously we had nothing in both our names and there was no problem.  We did have considerable evidence supporting our relationship and, of course, marriage but nothing at all in both our names.

I'm sure they could pull that one out of the closet whenever though...

There is an "or" after each thing. That last one is "other evidence"

I just sent in airline tickets and some other receipts and 3-4 photos of each trip plus the wedding pictures.

USCIS is open, I just called them.

The supporting evidence is different for each couple, they just give examples. If you are helping to support your wife, evidence of this would help your case.

How much time you spent together in her country would be important. Did you have a honeymoon trip?

Im not sure on the formalities side of bringing a wife to the US, it does seem a lot of work? My friend met a girl from Samara, he traveled there once. She then went to the UK with her child to visit, they went to the registry office, married and she stayed! She's been there nearly three years now. It's different for me my other half has a German and Russian passport :) No need for the Uk one.

Uk is probably different from the US , we still have half of the Cameroon Olympics team here! lol

We have a two tiered system here.

Mostly let in, or allow to stay, those who most existing citizens don't want to be here.

Mostly deny entry to those who existing citizens want to be here.
