Russian bear,

Yesterday I called my Russian pen pal to wish her a Happy Easter. I guess they don't celebrate it as much in Russia and she's not the exception. It is evident that there is a difference in the level of religious observance, she believes in God, but isn't ceremoniously religious. Nevertheless, she wished me a Happy Easter too. She didn't lecture me on how religion is stupid, how it is outdated, or ignore me outright, like I am accustomed to in the US by girls my age. She's a smart and polite girl and I would be lucky to have her one day.

The only way to prevent the emotional abuse you speak of is by coaching all Russian girls to withhold sex; which I know won't be a popular idea among the guys. Anyhow, it is cheaper to get the local bar skanks or just plain old whores, than to fly to Russia to trick a doe-eyed girl into sex by promising marriage. I would worry more about the married men who go to Russia to hide their infidelities.

And why did you do that, youngbuck??? I think you are a little early, yes?
As far as I know, Easter is May 5th this year. I am surprised she didn't correct you!!

I wasn't sure if she was orthodox or not. Well after our discussion I now know.

We do celebrate Easter and that is one of the greatest holidays here. Just we have it another date, the 5 of May this year)

She didn't celebrate it much . . . because it is not yet Easter in Russia.

Details of Easter: http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=15776.0

They don't have Thanksgiving.

New Year: Dec 31/Jan 1

Christmas is every January 7.

Old New Year: January 14

Soldier's day is Feb 23

Women's Day (like Valentine's on steroids) is March 8

Easter floats based on Equinox, rarely the same as the West.

Labour Day is May 1

Victory Day, one of the biggest holidays of the year, is always on 9 May.

Day of Russian independence, June 12.

You will discover that there are too many celebration days to keep track. For example, today 2 April, we have:

- International Children's Book Day
- Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia

Goodness, you missed Международный день птиц  (day of the birds) yesterday and before you know it the day of Jurists will be here too.  You are slacking, YoungBuck! :)

My wife would caution you. As would I.
A young NYU-educated Russian dentist who practices here gave us some insight to the perils of dentistry there - especially in smaller cities. Save your money. Chances are, any work done there will have to be repaired here.
I disagree totally. Russia has some great dentists. No worse then USA/Canada. I have had lots of dental work done there.first cause its way cheaper then the broken insurance infested system we have in North America. 2nd cause its a lot less stress.

Also beginning to plan a trip to Russia with no expectations except to have fun with a local girl. Now whatever else happens is gravy.
now I know many of  you  think that no one owes  anything to anyone but I disagree.a guest is to be treated with courtesy and respect. it is not respectful to jettison your guest out of your life,  just because.  it is  also not cool to walk out on plans.

Buck:
She probably has a local boyfriend and was hoping to upgrade to someone like you with more gravy.  If she toured around town with you, he or his buddies might see you two together.  You wouldn't want to run into him, would you?

If I go to Russia and bring back this girl then I will accomplish several goals that are most important to me: I plan to knock her up ASAP and ideally the child is born in Russia so that it has Russian citizenship so it can visit her parents also without hassle/visa BS. It will have US citizenship from me. She will obviously be attractive but also looking to be a mother. (Mention kids to many attractive girls in the US and pull out your stopwatch... she will set a record with how fast she runs)

Is this still the plan????  ;)

Overly exaggerated, yeah. (I mostly post after having a few drinks when I am bored)

She'll need to work on English for a while to be able to get the type of job she is used to so its an opportune time to procreate. I don't want her to be working at Burger King or anything she would find before complete fluency. So what is she going to do? Sit at my house and practice with Rosetta Stone everyday?

So BS, what do you do for a living?

Currently, Systems Administrator. I work from home and make a decent enough living. Actually can work from Russia or anywhere I want as long as within the right hours. Worked in some high end data centers and such in the past. Job title is always changing "NOC lead, NOC Engineer, Tier # Helpdesk, etc." I've run my own business doing Laptop Repair and through temp companies, etc.

Not to toot my own horn but I do pretty good for myself when I can stay busy. Only mentioned the bad tax return because I relocated and was out of work for a while... Nothing a letter from my boss and some paystubs couldn't fix though.
