« on: March 27, 2013, 11:45:48 AM »
Hey everyone!
Great news, i'm going to the US in the summer for 44 days!! (july 1 to august 14)  :D :D
Hubby is gonna join me for a couple of weeks too, for a beach vacation somewhere.

But for the rest of the 44 days there is so much to do and to see that i don't know what to choose!! Any suggestions? Anywhere!

Also accepting offers to show me around, anywhere in the US and maybe south Canada!!  :D :D   :D :D

Girl, where in the US are you going to be?

Great news, Aloe!  I suggest Florida beaches for you and hubby, as I know he likes beaches and they're great there.  GOB lives in the Miami area, perhaps he could make some suggestions.

I assume you'll stay on the East Coast.  If you make it to Canada, I suggest Niagara Falls.  That likely would be something your husband would enjoy as well.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

You need to hit up Vegas if you're going to the west coast.

Done deal for me. If SoCal is both on your sights, lose a dime on me. From Sta Barbara / LA / San Diego beaches, I'll (we) be happy to play host for you and hubby.

Aloe, PM me.

Marina and I will be glad to have you over, help you get a cheap hotel (on the beach), show you South Beach, The Everglades, whatever you want.... you got it!  :D

Believe me when I say this,  I am happy for you Aloe and I don't want to throw a wet blanket on your party but your hubby's behavior has been less than stellar (according to your posts here).

I will try and control myself around him, but if he even looks sideways......

If you do go West, you must check out Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.

I'll double that. Aloe, if Seattle is on your itinerary, I'll donate TWO dimes to fund your vacation. Glad you and hubby are doing something fun together. If you're too sweet of a lady, us Americans may just steal you away from Belgium.

I too suggest Florida for you and your hubby. So many places to see and things to do and when your tired of doing those, you can just lie on the beach and work on your tan!!!!!

Aloe, you will have to be more precise when you refer to "south Canada" as that could refer to a stretch of territory that covers thousands of kilometers ;)

Happy for you, Aloe. If you and your husband find yourselves driving down the East Coast to Florida, consider yourselves welcome to spend the evening here with Elvira and me, and rest your weary heads. Give or take a few hours, we're about halfway to Florida - and relatively close to freeways.
In any case, we hope you enjoy the visit and sights.

With all due respect to the beaches of Florida and SoCal, you need to spend time in New York. The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, 9/11 Memorial and Freedom Tower, Empire State Building ( this view is like no where else on the planet), 5th Avenue and the list goes on. There are thousands of great beaches, but only one New York! (BTW we have great beaches here also)

Viking: But you still need to walk along the beach to find it.

Central Park!!! Don't forget Central Park! Wifey loved Manhattan, especially when we took that horse-drawn carriage through Central Park one autumn with all the leaves as they were. The entire place was magical!

Of course the next day we rented a car and had me drive out of town through the tunnel/turnpike to DC then she fell in love with Washington DC and Georgetown as well...

So when it all comes down to it, methinks it's not really the place you go, it's the person you're with that makes these moments memorable.  8)

Aloe,

Delightful news.

What do you want to experience?  For example, crowded beaches with nightlife or secluded beaches.

Russians love Miami yet I am ready to go after just 2-3 days.  I prefer driving another three hours and experiencing Key West (which is more down and dirty than Miami Beach).

If you are driving, I suggest you should consider stopping at Orlando for the theme parks (Disney, Universal Studios, Seaworld are a treat).  I live in Tampa little over one hour from Disney World (and you are welcome - I have a 24-yo Russian stepdaughter - very serious but she knows the night life for young people such as yourself.

You do know that it will be hot in Florida in the summer, 34oC plus high humidity (thunderstorms most every afternoon).

You must see New York City (about three days).  Washington, DC is especially good if you like monuments and museums.  America is a young country but we do have some history.  Not far from DC are some excellent beaches.

Other sights:  New Orleans (very hot and rainy in summer), Las Vegas (very, very hot), Texas (hot), the Rocky Mountains (just as high as the Alps but more wilderness), New Mexico (very interesting place, cool, and I have relatives there), and of course California.  In California I prefer San Francisco.  In fact, it is one of the best cities in the world.  Weather in San Francisco - Mark Twain is quoted as saying the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.

New Orleans is a great suggestion.  If Aloe likes spicy food then it is a must.  I think it is overlooked by many.   If she drives from Florida, she can even stop in Alabama to do some gambling.  My friend and I made the drive from Georgia one time and had a blast.  I ended up tipping the bartenders in New Orleans to water down the drinks a little.  I couldn't believe how strong they made them.  heh

She can even get a voodoo doll of her husband to make sure he stays in line.   :P

Hey everyone, thanks for the offers and suggestions!  :D  As per AJ's suggestion, i booked 1 week in Hilton Marco Island hotel yesterday.   Strange thing, it costs twice more in july than in august! So i booked for august instead, from 1 to 8 august :)

Any idea how much food costs per day? Like how much is lunch/dinner? In Hilton breakfast is 40 bucks for 2 people, that's ridiculous, a 3rd of the room price. I ain't having breakfast for 40 bucks  :D  I'd rather have an apple and call it breakfast  :D  I'd like to go to a restaurant in the evenings though, to try something local! Like mexican and american foods :)

What foods should i try while in America?

Very high chances that hubby is gonna sit in the hotel without ever leaving, so i will have to go outside by myself. Cuz i'm not interested at all in lying around a beach. Anyone live within reach of Marco Island? I wanna meet and do something fun or see something!!  :D   :D

I also wanna have road trips everywhere! I'm mostly interested in beautiful nature and cities. Not so much museums. Also I like nice shows, like Broadway show or a dance show. Not very interested in night-life.

I'm still not sure what exactly i'm gonna do and how to plan this.

GQBlues, south California is definitely on the list  :D
LiveFromUkraine, haven't decided what city yet, depends where i go first. Probably west coast first.

     Me neither. Probably you'll find an IHOP nearby... International House of Pancakes. IMO, a pretty good value with a nice selection on the menu.

You'll definitely not want to eat anything at the Hilton. The good news is you will be able to find plenty of cheaper restaurants to eat at. Hotel restaurants tend to always be more expensive.

Inked in!

Schedule itinerary witstanding, lay out yours and hubby's Top-5/10 of must see/do and leave the rest to us. Road trip, Broadway, nature, culinary adventure, sea, city and sights touring - you got it. As long as neither of you are allergic to cute felines, accomodations are taken care of, too. Plenty of room in the house.

Please: No Disneyland. I beg of you. (Besides, the one in FLA is much, much better anyway)...But SoCal and a bit beyond - Vegas, SF to Mission Bay - you got it.

Too bad this isn't happening on April as I have to waste 4 backstage passes for Coachella Art and Music festival since lovely wifey's all tied-up with her tax season right now.
