On an only slightly related note:

I was once at a party where a fortune teller, palm reader, tea reader, etc., was invited for fun.

It was known to a few people (but not her husband) that a certain married woman had had affairs with a few different men.

The palm reader looked at her hand, told  some things,  and then also said:  Have you been to Italy; I keep seeing Roman in your signs.

The woman quickly withdrew her hand and moved to the far end of the room for the remainder of evening.

So . . . sometimes . . .

I can't ever remember seeing that particular elephant described as being any colour!

I didn't realize there were apparently so many different variations on the slang of the "elephant in the room". I just added the pink for flair  I also use 800 lbs Gorilla

Actually, the correct term is White Elephant.

A "pink elephant" is a euphemism for an intoxicated hallucination.

"white elephant" has completely different meaning in Russian. Popularized by Mark Zakharov's movie "the Formula of Love" the phrase "a big and pure/clean love" became almost standard in Russian language. Initially it had only direct meaning, but the movie added to it the element of irony. At some point, the common joke started circulating among people: "If you want something big and pure/clean - wash an elephant," or in a more simple, and additionally twisted form "the white elephant" implying that hopes for "one and only", "life-long", "big and pure" love is as rare as the white elephant, and dreams about it are as absurd as is the plan to wash the elephant to make it white.
