I like this community
« on: April 14, 2013, 09:40:14 AM »
Hello guys and girls

I am female from Belarus, just got married to the best man in my life (in February). He is from Florida, USA. We can share valuable experience about official procedures in Belarus to get married. So if you need help, feel free to contact me. I am still in Belarus and have to stay till I finish my university in summer of 2014. Before I just  was reading posts here but now I feel eager to enjoy saying my word as well.

Yulia

Welcome Yulia, and I hope you will enjoy your stay here. Do not get too serious about what is written, and remember that one month we are protecting women too much while we are chasing them off the next.

As you got married you must be serious, but how are you planning to cope with the long time still ahead in Belarus?
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Hello again

I didn't post much but I am returning.

Well we coped well 2 years before we got married. Now we chat every day in Yahoo messenger at certain time, call each other and write letters. Of course it is difficult, but we love each other and believe things will be fine.

Steve comes 2ce a year, the previous time he came for about 3 weeks, it's not much, but still I was happy to live with my hubby for some time.

By degree I will be a linguist, though lately I got disappointed in my specialty, too much talking, not enough doing. I think I will go all way to physical therapy in the US, husband says I should pursue my dream even if it is a long way. He is very supportive. I think I will do bachelor's in kinesiology and later will make a final choice.

Yeah, bless God messenger developers too. It helps a lot. I use Skype to call to husband's phone, cost is okay for me and is easily paid by electronic currencies.

We will live in Palm Bay for the first time, maybe later we will have to move closer to the University of Florida. I will be happy to meet your stepdaughter, I am 27yo. I am going to have own step-kids, which feels strange. Kids of all ages usually like me (I worked with kids in past), still I am a bit afraid.

       :welcome:   What do you study?

That's a tricky question :D And seriously I am not sure which major to put on translated diploma. By the diploma I will be Bachelor in Modern Languages, linguist-teacher of 2 languages (English and Swedish) with the specialization "foreign literature". So I am in trouble trying to figure out what is my major. By number of hours I think major should be teaching English.

This university made me hate fiction. Maybe in some years I will feel better about English and American literature. Just now I read only non-fiction in English and some fiction in Russian and Belarusian.

In high school I had German as 2nd foreign language. Steve said I should take German at university, but Julia always does what comes to her mind :D So now I am A2-level learner of the rare language and hardly think of where to apply this knowledge. Still svenska is very melodic and beautiful language, I like Swedish culture too.

Welcome to the forum Yulia!  :welcome:

Thank you for being so generous to post your photos for us to see. Steve is a really attractive man on the photo, and he looks at you with an obvious affection!  8)

You mentioned the stepkids, does Steve have any children of his own? If he does, how did he introduce them to an idea that he is going to get married and to bring another woman home who is not their mother? How does it feel for them that from now on, the Dad's feelings will belong not only to the kids but to the other woman as well?

Yes, Steve has 1 grown-up daughter and 2 kids who are underage (he married young the first time). The children know father got married, they live with their mom most of the time now. They (a boy and a girl) seem to be okay with father's marriage. I won't try to play mom, I think I will be closer to teacher-figure. I saw reports on Facebook from kids' school - I think both are bright and nice, we will get along, though I will have to learn a lot.

Julia, I don't know the US system, here it'd be BA or MA (depending on the Uni years of the course) and the major would be the language of graduation. I have an MA degree in 'Lingue e letterature straniere' (Foreign Languages and Literatures) and my major is English.

'Linguist-teacher' is not an academic title but the occupation/profession 'enabled' by the title itself.

Good decision not to play mom.

I do not understand the "teacher" role you envision.   Such may be ill advised at first.

Most important IMO is to  demonstrate that you love their father.   Other than that, be patient.  Welcome them as family, be friendly always, and allow them to come to you at their pace.  Do not feel offended if they seem distant.  Seek direction and feedback only from Steve (in private).   This may take a year or so before they become friendly.

Thank you very much for your advice, Gator. By saying teacher-figure I mean the role which I know - of adult having decision power, but without blood relation. I am professional teacher so I already have skills of this kind. Yes I know it will take some time for all of us. I am optimistic, children are nice, I already talked to daughter and we are looking forward to meet each other.

It's a good question to ask. We didn't discuss it much, still things can be harder with the boy, the girl seems to be more open to the idea.

In Florida, there are wonderful amusement parks. I love this aquapark, for example. Never been there so far  :'(  but hopefully I'll find a way to visit it one day.
