Blood Test
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:10:18 PM »
Gentlemen,

I was wondering, if after all your time placed in a relationship, the letters, trips, etc. If a decision is made to get married, why is  the blood test one of the last requirements. I mean what if she is found to have some STD or worse. Is it possible to have a medical test done before you jump into a relationship than find out later she has a disease. I think it would be in bad risk to ask her for a medical test early in the relationship. I have not been in this situation, but was wondering ahead of time. Len

Here in EU land medical exams, blood tests and vaccinations were not required.

We did talk openly about this subject before marriage, but with both of us having been tested it was a non issue.

All was confirmed later before our child was born.

In my (and I think our) eyes our relationship was the key issue..  other than dental work no other health issues ever came up.

All falls back on knowing the person you marry.

You could ask her early if she would mind a blood test at your expense, but you may offend her by asking unless you phrase it in a way that makes her feel you are serious about your relationship with her and what to do this BEFORE you have sex with her.

Well, she has to pass medical exam when she applies for visa, and that includes blood test.
You can really offend her by asking to do that "early".

I would think if you ask tactfully she would say yes. Maybe say I want to submit papers for you, but before I go through the time etc, would you p[lease take a blood test now to make sure you will pass your physical when you do have the fiancee phyiscal done. something like that.

What good is it going to do you.  If you open the envelope you might as well throw it away.  You have to take the "sealed" envelope to the embassy for the interview.  Also it should preferably be within 3 months of the interview.

Well,

I guess that is that. The sealed envelope it is. It's the same as here when you meet a perspective partner. One of my questions is are you healthy. You still can catch certain diseases / viruses even with a condom.

Well they still say "Till death do us part" but most of us hope it is not speeded up by our choices in partners.

Suppose you get the blood test early and everything is OK.

Between that date and the date you bring her here she catches a STD.

So what good has the early blood test done, other than give you some safety for having sex at that time?

Sorry to pick on you BC, but I always get a kick out of the many guys here who post as you did:  "All falls back on knowing the person you marry."  The more common version on these boards is 'be sure of the gal you marry.'

Great advice.  Why don't we apply the same criteria to all our ventures?  For instance, only buy stocks that will go up in value.  Don't buy those that will go down in value.

I dont see anything offensive in this. I think this is right as you care about your health.

Sorry for the belated reply Albert, but when buying stocks most folks don't do it blindly, they ask around, get some good advice and take their residual risks from there.

Some men (and women) seem to take less time effort to investigate their mates than they would investing money, purchasing, home or even a computer..  call it compulsive shopping.

lawman, if you are asking her for a blood test, would you go with her and have the same done ?
After all you might just as well catch that STD, it is not only her risk.

Think about it reverse. You write a woman and want to meet her. she writes back that she wil be happy to meet you if first you send her a copy of your blood test.  ;D
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Definitely,
I feel that if you are putting so much time and effort, that  it should be a requirement early on... however, you never know what will happen after the results and trust and faith come into play.
