Quiz to test your knowledge of Europe
« on: April 26, 2013, 06:09:17 AM »
http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Europe/2011/0128/Think-you-know-Europe-Take-our-geography-quiz/Question-1

This is much easier than the Russian/Belarusian/Ukrainian/FSU quizzes I've posted.  It contains 21 questions. As you go through the first ten or twelve questions you're going to think the quiz is incredibly easy.  Keep going; it gets harder as you go on.  I missed 2 of the 21 questions for a score of 90%.

Feel free to post your results.

Great score!

I can't add any questions to this quiz.  It wasn't one I created. It was prepared by the magazine.  For the FSU quizzes I create I make them more challenging for you and some of the other FSUW, as well as Mendy.

But this UK quiz is harder and contains more history questions.  I missed four of the twenty questions.  I should not have missed two of these.

I would retitle it : quiz to test your knowledge of the United Kingdom. It will be more accurate. Thank.

The second quiz was a UK quiz, but the first question was a quiz that covered the entire continent of Europe.  Given the small number of questions it can't have one on every country of the continent.   And it is pretty light on France and Germany, two of the larger countries.

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

Scotland                   Principality of Monaco

The Netherlands       Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

These two might also be confused:

Germany                       Belgium

How about these other European flags? Hint: 3 of them share borders with Italy ;).

The flags of Cornwall and Wales were not taken into consideration, probably because hard to fit in heraldically unless a different scheme, like quartering as in the Royal Standard, was chosen:

Saint Piran's Cross               Y Ddraig Goch (The Red Dragon)  Royal Standard of England

Only one wrong (and I was tossing up with the correct answer  :'( ) - not bad when a couple were just guesses!

21 out of 21.

However, as I progressed, I kept worrying about the former Yugoslavia and the Balkans in general.  That area can be quite dicy with so many relatively recent changes, and being an area not widely traveled or studied by many.

Luckily, one one question regarding that area.
