scam artist or not?
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:36:21 AM »
I met a woman online and we have been talking for 3 weeks.  she claims she loves me and wants to come visit me.  She said she applied for her visa but it will be 2 weeks before she hears anything.  Shesaid she went to a travel agency for this...to apply for her visa and schedule tickets...she said she paid part of it but now needs more money.  Should I send her money or is she scaming me?

It's a common scam.  She is saying she loves you after only 3 weeks.  You haven't met in person.

You shouldn't be sending money to anyone you haven't met in person.

No.  I am just trying to save you some money, time and grief.  You may think you are talking to a woman but it could simply be a man pretending to be a woman.

This is a common scam.  Do a search on this site for ticket scam or visa scam.

You won't ever see her.  No FSU woman is going to tell a guy she loves him after 3 weeks of emails.  At least you didn't lose anything but a little time and learned a lot. ;)

Sure, send her money and see if she shows up.  Or visit her yourself.

You can also do a search on her pictures and portions of her email text.  A lot of times they write the same thing to everyone.

Think about this logically.  How many women do you know would travel to a foreign country to meet a man after a few weeks of correspondence?

What city is she posting from?  Have you checked that her IP?  Have you googled her name?

Look, you asked if this was a scam and we said it was.  This is a very common scam so it wasn't hard to figure it out.

You haven't met this woman so she isn't the woman of your dreams.  You can either learn the hard way and send her money, go to visit her and find out if she is real or move on to someone who doesn't fall in love within 3 weeks via email.

There are lots of Isakovos in Russia.

An IP is the address from which the lady is posting.  You can get it from the header in emails.

How did you connect with this woman?  If she found you, then 99.99%, it's a scam.

Ask yourself what quality you have that a foreign woman is so much in love with you in 3 weeks that she wishes to visit.

Carefully read the letters and see if she really answers your questions, or that you get every time a long letter full of generic writing that coud be about anything.

Start asking her questions that are not generic. For instance about which isokovo she lives in, what she thinks of Putin.
Ask her phone number and call.

You will find that the more specific you will be, the higher the chance she will diappear.

Tell her not to worry about the visa, you will visit her. And if she agrees, actually do.

I give like boethius 99,99% it is a scam.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Scammers can be anywhere, but you may have made a mistake in case (s)he is using gmail or hotmail.
You need the X-originating IP, it may be hashed in some cases.

I have not been looking at these for some time, a while back the University of Kazan was the most frequently used IP. They may have moved or rented a VPN though.

Better yet, send me the money. I'll send you some more pictures even after I don't show up.  :D

Dude, it's a scam. She can't get a visa that quick and if she could, she wouldn't need your money to do it. 3 weeks of emails. Are you really such a Lothario that she is coming to visit you after only 3 weeks? Are the emails dreamy? Is she going to cook you tasty dishes, take long walks in the nature and have your children?

Don't be embarrassed but, do wise up. Have you sent money to someone you met online in Roosterpoot, Kansas? There are 100's of 1000's of real, sincere women that would love to meet you and they won't ask for money to do it.

You don't get her to America.  As was mentioned above by LiveFromUkraine and Shadow, you go to visit her.  But as the others have said, this is almost certainly a scam.  I suggest that you find a genuine girl and get to know her, then visit her.

The best thing you have done so far is to ask here!  Now listen and believe.

Vanier,

It is apparent to me that you have swallow the RW fantasy, hook line and sinker.  Even though we tell you it is a scam, you remain in a state of denial.   Here are two steps for getting to know more:

1.  Tell her you will travel to Russia to meet her.  Stop any talk about her visiting you.  If she says "yes," do come back here and let us know.  A trip to the FSU is an interesting and fun adventure for the men who married a FSUW.   We can help you in planning the trip and in meeting genuine women.

2.  You say that you talk.  Do you Skype?  Skype is very important.
