Has anyone actually married a Moscow Gal
« on: April 13, 2006, 05:19:05 AM »
Some stupid question that popped into my mind on the Long, Long Movieless Aeroflot flight yesterday (it was a short flight that just seemed to take forever).

A few years ago Moscow was the number one destination for Romance tours.  Now because of the growing economy and high prices they seem to concentrate more on the smaller cities.   It happened to occur to me that I have heard guys say thier wives were from Omsk, from Tver from Kharkov.   I have never heard a single person on this forum say thier wife was from Moscow.  Since it used to be the number one hunting spot I was just curious if anyone had actually married a gal from there.

I can say that I came this close >< to marrying one. It was totally a chance encounter and she was an absolutely amazing woman. I must make a note that there are really women that were born in raised in Moscow and those that their families have recently moved there. She came from a family that had lived there for hundreds of years. My experience with these women (I met a lot of her friends and family) are that while they are more likely to have an elitist attitude somewhat toward the rest of Russian cities their character was remarkable. She and her friends were incredibly well mannered and composed, very successful in life. She graduated with Red Diplom (like Magna Cum Laude) from two schools. She graduated with a Red Diplom in art university and Red Diplom from dental school. She was an absolutely amazing woman. Most of her friends were too. They were true Moskvichki!

I definitely would say that the more recent immigrants to Moscow did not have the depth of character, values or education. They often claimed to be from Moscow but you could tell they weren't. This in many ways tarnished the image of the true Moskvichki. All I can say is that if you can land one of the true Moskvichki you will have one heck of a catch. I would have married mine but she had already started down another path (not a guy) but relocated to another country that seriously complicated the entire situation for us. Long story that doesn't really matter for the sake of my reply. Suffice to say I'd marry her in a heartbeat if I could but there is almost no way it could happen for several years.

Take time to learn the language. Even a little can go a long ways...

Get off your butt and go! Don't make excuses why you can't do it, find a way to make it work! Always go with a backup plan too!!!

I can see that T/G really doesn't read my posts.

My wife is a true Moscovichka.  I don't see any of those awful arrogant traits I so often hear about in my wife, but then I grew up in the Highland/University Park Cities myself and we were considered pretty arrogant ourselves.

Sorry jb, I missed that.  My own recent encouters with Moscow gals has not been too endearing.   There was the one I talked about in my trip report with the $ 550.00 dinner and what was almost a $ 1000.00 date.

On my trip I just came back from the one Moscow gal was actually a transplant.  She said to me that the small town she came from would be a good place to hunt for a woman.   She said she had more than 30 serious proposals of marriage but none were suitable to her and the girls from her town, even the very pretty ones have never had one and have a hard time even finding  a boyfriend.    Anohter of her comments. was that the people who lie in the apartments in the central part of the city (which everyone tells me are the more valuable ones) are poor.  She has a new aparment out of the center, (which everyone tells me are the cheap ones)   And of course her family is wealthy so she does not need a rich husband.   I will add that this gal with 30 serious probosals of marriage was about a 5 and a but chunky.

The one with the  $ 550.00 dinner was 31.  She has since told me she has found the man of her dreams and I sure hope he is rich.  He will need it.  The other one, oh, I don't know maybe somewhere between 25 and 29.

Turbo,

You are probably better off (like me) not even looking for a wife, much less a FSU 'gal'.

Che sera, sera..

Sincerely,

BC
