Hello all,

Some of you will know me from another place.  If so say g'day so I can know you here for I shan't be returning there!

To those who don't know me - I am an Aussie and among other things a muso.

I am married to a St P girl.  About 1 year now - happy to help any Aussies re immigration stuff.  Steadily making progress в русский язык.  So much that's father on law said(a bit tongue in cheek) that for our forthcoming trip to Ukraine next year I should start on Ukrainian!  Never!  One Slavic language is enough.

So hello all and we'll met.

We live in Melbourne now.  Story? Well - a bit different - on a whim I signed up on a site - emailed 4 girls - got 2 replies - didn't really dig the whole thing so cancelled my account - but I had one of the girls personal email address - emailed her, Skyped, met 4 times and married.

My opinion. It is easy if you are reasonable looking guy, with a good sense of humour, sincerity, intelligence, a good job, stable life and you act with honour, grace, respect and courage.  Girls in FSU will fall all over themselves to get you.  I know this more after the fact than before or during.  I know my wife's single friends.  I know from her and them what the dating scene is like in a place like St Petersburg.

Truly, there are some incredibly great women in St P - single and looking.  But they ain't looking for some guy 20 years older, who is a bit of a nut job, forum-nerd or simply relationship handicapped etc etc.  Which, in reality is a good description of a heap of the guys heading east these days looking for that young hot bride.

Hence, I note that not many guys have a girl from St P or Moscow - affluent Russian cities.  Why?  Because you have to have something really going for you to woo a girl from there, particularly a pretty and classy (and good!) girl. 

As my wife puts it - when I tell her about guys on forums who are 40 or 50 looking for some 25 year old, attractive and sexy slim girl - she says "Such girl in St Petersburg can get what she wants without leaving home".  It is a city with money.

I am 4 years snr my wife - she is gorgeous, slim and one hell of a хозяйка - but that's not what I like about her - she is "real" - in a kind of way that all the pretentious western would be buddhists talk about but never really manage to "be".

Hence, guys go for the poor areas of Ukraine which are slowly turning themselves into a giant brothel - overtaking Thailand as the No. 1 sex-tourist destination.  I don't like it, I don't think its good, I pity the girls, I pity the world that after 3000 years of so-called civilisation, such a thing still persists - poverty/desperation/selling of humans. 

So, I got a pretty, well educated, descent, never married, no kids, classy, english speaking St P woman and romanced her 15,000km across the globe.  It cost a lot (Australia is far away from everywhere), took a heap of time but I love her so much I can only say it was worth it.

Welcome OzzimusicianI agree with most of what you say.
However, I think you are overstating  it somewhat by overgeneralizing about  the superiority of big city Russian gals compared to Ukrainian gals.
There really isn't such a stark difference between the gals and the countries for that matter.
I don't think Ukraine is at all turning into a brothel.
I have spent considerable time in both Russia and Ukraine for  the last 13 years or so, mostly on business trips.  I don't really see a whit of difference between the two countries and the people who live there.
Yes, the statistics show Russia is progressing somewhat better economically in the macro sense.  However, in the micro sense, as a businessman and a man in relationships with the  women . . . there are multimillionaries everywhere in both countries . . . and the women are indistinguishable.

Not an opinion that I can agree with.It is the sort of comment that comes from the Ruso-centric world that considers Ukrainians 2nd class citizens.
I would challenge your ability to know any of this--or is it something you read somewhere?

Welcome OzzimusicianI agree with most of what you say.

I wasn't comparing the quality of the people - just the desire to get out.  There is a reason that the trend is toward Ukraine - St P and Moscow girls don't want to go to the US or Aust - Europe is more their preference.  So why is it the Ukraine girls are more willing? Economics pure and simple.

I take exception to it because it is not the first time I have seen comment like that-- only to find it is not a credible source.There has in the past been considerable exploitation of Ukraine-- and other FSU countries-that is appalling -- but it does not equal the weeping statement you made.

With respect JayH - you don't have to search hard to find the wide spread evidence of the Ukrainian prostitution issue.  The interior minister said something like - "our country is becoming a haven for sex tourism before our eyes". 1 in 6 sex workers are minors according to the Institute of Social Studies- the Femen take to the streets decrying that "Ukraine is not your brothel".

You speak of exploitation "in the past" as if it is over.  Its not. 

It's the reason why I have met here in Aust a pretty 30yo Ukrainian girl màrried to a 48yo guy who could only be described as - unsaleable on the local market on all fronts.  Interacting with them it was plain as the nose on your face that this was not some relationship built on affection, attraction, compatability or love.  Born out of a desire to leave Ukraine.
