Made it to 3 years!
« on: May 20, 2013, 03:23:59 PM »
I have been around this site for about 7 years now. I used it exhaustively in the early years and found some really good people ( most of them are gone but some are still here..you know who you are.. :clapping: ) who helped me through the good times and bad. Recently, I guess because my needs have diminished, my postings have become few and far apart, but I am still here, reading. The best news is that in a week I will have reached my 3 years of marriage. A milestone for me. And some how I think Alena and I will make it through many many more years. Yes we have had our share of bad times ( lost my job, had to move to much smaller digs, weeks of no anything with Hurricane Sandy) but she is still here. She is a  very frugal person, wants little ( but I know she would appreciate more right now), and her most fervent desire in terms of traveling is to visit Niagara Falls and CA-Na-Da. A small road trip.

She is now back in Belarus, for a lengthy stay. Almost 5 months. Her mom is very ill and there are few people who can care for her. She has advanced Parkinson's. The separation is difficult but We both understand where she needs to be right now. I guess you can call it love. Besides, I can cook and clean so no need for a babysitter at my end.

Anyway just a short and simple update.

Congratulations on your anniversary, viking.  I'm sorry you have to be apart, but your wife's devotion to her mother is evidence of her character and caring nature.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Congrats Viking and thanks for sharing the update. I remember years ago when you wrote about your experience meeting your wife. It's seems like yesterday. How time flies by.

Congratulations Viking!!!!  I recall the early days of when you were dating.  She stayed with you through the downturn.. A good woman!

A trip to the Mother Country is usually refreshing.  However, five months and the bad health of her mother make the trip a difficult time for you and your bride.  I wish smooth sailing ahead!

I want to thank everyone for their good wishes. Much appreciated. TallBill. Unfortunately there are no bikini parties at my home for the duration, even though i am all of 200 feet from the beach. :'( But a nice thought none the less!

My wife goes home for anywhere from 2 months to 3 months. It is lonely but I think sometimes necessary.

He is my step-son and lives here with us. Except when he takes his several months vacation back to Belarus each year. I am gradually weening him away from these long trips for several reasons. First, he needs to understand that this is now his home and he needs to find friends here ( male and female) so that his old buds back home gradually become less important. Secondly, although he works, it is a job that pays cash and he can take this kind of time off. Once he finds a "real" job, he will be very limited to time off. like the rest of us working dudes ( and dudettes). And lastly,  he needs to find his own place..soon.. and he cannot ask the landlord for a few months "leave of absence" and not pay his monthly rent.

Congratulations as well Viking.  Sorry to be late with this but missed this thread until today.
I think you can be real proud of the accomplishment.   You dealt with many difficulties and adversities but never gave up your dream.   It shows the power of determination and will.

Son in law or stepson?
Opps, my mistake...for some reason, it is already not the first time that I refer to a stepson as a son in law. :o
