Another New Guy
« on: June 10, 2013, 01:41:54 PM »
Hi all,

I'm Jim from Southern California. I've been married to my Ukrainian wife since November. I can say it's a learning experience on both sides! I'm here because I want to share info (a nice way of saying I want to find out stuff) about my wife's plans to attend college here. I'm semi-retired, and she is unemployed right now. I guess I'll shop around the forums for the right place to make my comments and ask questions. For now, though, just wanted to say "hi!"

Welcome to the forum, Jim.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Hi Jim.

My Ochka (from Ukraine) has been living with me here in USA for two years now having arrived via a Student Visa.

First year she spent in the Intensive English program at a major university.  That program helped her to attain high enough TOEFL score to be accepted into most graduate programs in USA.  She had about a 6 (out of 10) speaking and reading proficiency in English to start out with, and about 4 level for writing.

Second year here she spent in math graduate program at the same university with a full tuition scholarship plus a 9 month salary as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Will be starting the second year of the graduate program in late August 2013.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
