What kind of AM could write letters like these??
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:29:16 AM »
Hello dears,

My mother looks for a mate online, and I am asked for an opinion about the American guys from time to time.

There seems to be an unusual breed of AM who write a particular type of letters. Not just my Mom, but at times I, too, find a few emails of that style in my mailbox  >:( . There is a feeling that AM of more advanced age are more inclined to that type of letters, though.

Here is how the letters looks like. First, they come mostly just as a second ot third email, that means, right on the initial stage of making contact. What is apparent about them is that the letters are unusually long, like over a page of typed text. Another sign is that the letters include many deepest revelations about feelings, often declarations of love in the second email, abundant words about love, etc.

Hope that you get the picture. To my notice, this type of men usually have their own business, like international trades or similar, own their houses, have kids who study abroad, etc.

My question to you would be: how come that the apparently reasonable men write like this? Would that be an initial stage of insanity, or do they sincerely believe that this would be the right way to write letters to a dating prospect at the very beginning?

The RWD members ask here about a RW way to write letters. Now I feel that there is something to be asked the other side  :D

Given, as you say, "they are business men (likely fairly successful) and apparently reasonable," so . . .  yes, they sincerely believe this is the 'right way.'

I must admit that I wrote perhaps 'longer than usual' letters to the women I contacted.  But I never included words about feelings (except toward favorite music or art) or love.

In my approach (described in 'Pursuing FSUW 101) I sent only 6-7 emails over the 6-7 weeks immediately prior to my arrival in their city.

I wanted the women to know practically everything about my background up to the current, when we had our first meeting.  In that way, I would avoid the (otherwise certain) KGB questioning that the FSUW like to conduct in initial meetings.

Rather, we could just casually and on a very friendly basis discuss further our common interests, things we had experienced similarly, etc.

Actually, I only had a very few women that complained about my lengthy messages, and they were eliminated at that point.  This was one of my ways of ascertaining 'seriousness,' as the FSUW are so keen on determining themselves.

But, in my screening, I only contacted and continued with those who could communicate in English.

And most of these, sent me similarly lengthy messages.

If the two parties must rely on a translator . . . then forget long messages and, for me and others . . . forget completely.

Exactly, I mean the feelings of love towards the woman on the other end, who they write a second letter only!

How about this sample? I copied his automated translation and tried to make a passable English out of it:

"I really feel to be very blessed that you exist in this life.. You seem to be so special and now when I have found you I do not plan to release you... I know that God brought you in my life, I prayed above you. Now I glorify God because he gave you to me.

Communication is one of basics, therefore I want that you do not hesitate to tell me anything.. I shall be your friend, your best friend. I will not judge you, and you will be the only one who I love. I know, that honesty and communications is a lasting basis for our relationships. God and God's blessings will be our guides".

"...I have learned that I thirsted during last years of my life as I have understood who I am in the Christ what I and my life should be on the basis of His Word!! These are words from Sacred Spirit...... the Sacred Spirit conducts me... I completely trust that He conducts and directs us and that our prays will proceed to answer we simply should trust and build our friendship .. I wish to make long walks with you or just to sit in the same reading room. We can sit on a sofa, you on one end with me, looking at you, me on one end with you a head to me on knees and simply to relax... I wish to be in the overflown hall with you. . To see you on the other end of a room and simply to know, that your eyes are for me, that we have that special communication, that we have been blessed by the God..."

This style seems to be typical for some AM. Is that normal to write like this?

No. At least not in my world.

Heck, unless the man is romantically involved with the woman (even then, that's far too nerdy and mushy), which means they've actually met and spent a great deal of time together, intimately/passionately, etc; no sane person (man or woman) should ever 'believe' any of that *Burpee* special. Especially from those they haven't met regardless if the letter is the 10th/20th letter.

It reeks with BS, insecurities, desperation and everything in between.

It's either pchycho (had it, ended up receiving a letter full of threats and insults) or nigerian scam (had it too) .

I do resent the fact that most people never question or think for themselves. I don't want to be normal. I just want to find some other people that are odd in the same ways that I am. OP.

Lily, did you or your mum tried to communicate beyond 2nd letter with guys who wrote these letters? Such letters written to seek lonely and vulnerable women. More likely at letter 5 will be request for money.

They just started corresponding, and my Mom showed his 2nd letter to me.

It was written in Russian through an automated translator, therefore it sounded very coarse and funny in Russian. Above, I did the reverse translation of it but brought the text in a more or less conceivable appearance, just to give you an idea.

Nigerian scam? The dating site is reputable, that man is in his late sixties or so and has an apparently normal profile and photos...

Anyone who can write about 'deepest feeling' or feelings of love cannot be telling the truth.  Therefore, everything else in the letter is also suspect.   I would 'can such a man' immediately.

Lily, since when a picture is a proof that the profile is legitimate? Just wait and see what part of the world his international business will bring him to.

Careful now..the *guy* is apparently in his late 60s and subscribes to EM, which by deduction, may well be an active RWD member who had taken the tip to use Elena's Model...

Late 60s AM, RWD, EM are synonymous, you know... :-X :P

Oh wait...that can't be actually. He's writing to Lily's Mum and I doubt her mumski is 30 years old. Sorry. My bad.

Had he taken the tip of the RWD, I doubt that he would be writing like this.

Also, it is not just related to the particular man. This writing style seems to be adopted by more AM than I could think of!That's why I wanted to ask the RWD members whether this style is allright for a reasonable man.

I could paste some more examples of this style from my own mailbox, but I am not asking for advice regarding those guys. I am just curious about the tendency to write in this manner.

If I had to rely on letter writing skills I would never have been married. In the business world your taught to write short and to the point so have no idea why they write long winded.  Maybe long winded because there secretary is writing it for them.
I would encourage your mother to only meet men in person and zero letters unless your mother does not live in a city with more than 500,000 people.  Have her post a photo here and she may meet someone.  Men really only care about the photo first.

That was my first thought upon reading your OP. I can't imagine any AM writing letters like that especially in the first few or any beyond

I am older and wrote and met a fair number of women and I never, ever came anything close to such nonsense. I have no rational explanation.
Just don't encourage any of these people.

I think (hope, pray, etc) that the only member who posts regularly here, and expounds like this, is lordtiberius.  However, as he is certainly nowhere near his late 60s, it's not him!

On a more serious note, I can't for the life of me imagine anyone writing such mush in only their second letter.  I must admit that some of my early letters to some women were also a bit long, but I wrote at more length only to women with good English.  I certainly didn't offer declarations of love to anyone without meeting them...and I didn't do it after meeting them, either!  8)

Dears,

I ran the photos of this guy through the Google image, and found a number of websites where this person is discussed as a scammer with different names, ages and addresses.

And this is EM. How can we report him to the EM?

Yes, unfortunately, Nigerian/Ghanan scammers are not limited to just posing as women only but also as men.
