« on: August 18, 2013, 06:29:02 PM »
Soooooo, I'm back from a 7 week trip to America.
5 things:
Giant cars and bad drivers everywhere!
Only 1 in every 100 people i saw is fat!
99% of public toilet facilities are abominable!!!
Public transport is non-existent!
New York is awesome!

Oh, and they speak English there! How awesome is that?

I am bitterly disappointed! I was led to believe that i'd be in the land where everyone has consumed enough milk and honey to resemble a ball, and hence i'd be popular, well nuhh-huh!!!!!! Tons of slim beautiful women everywhere!!!

Moreover, it sounds like health insurance for a family and good schools for kids are nearly unaffordable!

Also I seem hugely unpopular with American men. Registered on match.com, got only like 60 emails in a month and even less winks. On a belgian site i got 1500 'winks' and dunno how many messages already, but probably more than 300, in 7 weeks, with exact same profile and photos. Maybe belgians appreciate cuddlyness and cuteness more? :)
Interestingly, when my match.com profile said San Francisco, i got messages from guys around 30-45. But when i changed it to Naples, Florida, age dropped to 24-32.

Welcome back Aloe!  I am glad that you had the opportunity for an extended trip through America.

What was so awesome about New York?   My younger son  agrees with you, and he is planning on moving to NYC.

Nobody uses "public" toilets unless really desperate (like FSU) - That's what McDonalds are for. (Just don't eat there  ;D )

Crappy buses are about it.

The real deal is not that health insurance or good schools are such a problem it is that American's love to complain.   When someone wins 100 million in the PowerBall they will be on clound nine for a week and then start bitching non stop about the problems all the money causes for them.

Glad you had a great trip.

Venture out of the tourist areas and you'll have a different opinion. My wife has lived here nearly 2 years and she sees a clear difference between American women and FSU women when it comes to weight and taking care of their physical appearance. More cows here. One can verify that through Google.

I dated a few FSU ladies who lived or visited NY and after living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, they don't ever want to move back to NY.

Where else did you visit besides NY?

...More cows here. One can verify that through Google....

...and so I did. Yup, there sure are a lot of fat people in the US. Latest ratings is that they are second only to Mexico. It's estimated roughly 30% of the population is classified as being obese. Obesity is define by CDC as a person weighing 30% more than BMI rating.

So much to project to from this point. Namely...

"In most countries, obesity is strongly linked to gender and socioeconomic standing, with poorly educated women two to three times more likely to be overweight than those with more schooling. For men, disparities are less prominent and almost non-existent in many countries.

In the U.S., however, obesity is more likely to be linked to race than to income, with African-Americans and Hispanics more likely to be overweight than non-Hispanic whites or Asian-Americans
".

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2013/04/how-us-obesity-compares-with-other-countries.html

NO need to argue this point here considering a) Mexico is deemed to be the fattest country in the world bar none. b) Food stamps is at an all-time high in the US and no need to wonder who the majority of social reliant communities are.

One can easily walk along cities like Long Beach, where a lot of African Americans live...East LA/Sta Ana, huge hispanic communities - and easily witness big bertha butt sisters rolling abound.

But, simply judging from the ethnical standpoint, the majority of men involved in the MOB/FSU ARE NOT searching for black and browned skin colored women, right?

Second point, which really is the bigger point. Even if you sliced that 30% margin and lay 20% of it are women, that still basically only means +/- 60 million of the total from 150 +/- million female population.

Meaning, that still leaves 90 +/- million women who are not. 150 million total female population is MORE, or equal to, than the entire population of Russia. Where, roughly 25% are considered obese.

http://themoscownews.com/russia/20121211/190992372.html

These really stupid MOB hype really needs to stop. You can be deluded all you want, just keep it to yourself. You folks are becoming to sound redundantly stupid.

Really? It didn't bother you that everywhere every toilet, even at airports, has 1 cm gaps on each side of the door or corner, so everyone coming in and going can see you?

If you think American roads are good, come to Holland or Germany :) Or maybe you only stayed in one specific state that does have good roads? It's possible, i suppose, that some states have good roads :)
Same with drivers, compared to Europe.

I went to San Francisco, LA, Vegas, Denver, Saint Louis, Detroit suburb, Ft. Lauderdale, MArco Island and New York. Liked NY the best. And we were staying in Harlem there, where we would often be the only light skinned people on the street  :)   I just love that it has so much to offer, dozens of musicals and other shows. I love shows! So much going on all the time. And while taking a taxi from LGA to Harlem, it felt immediately like home with the ugly grim apartment blocks buildings  :D   Taking the subway to go everywhere also felt like home :)
What was weird in Harlem, come evening, tons of people would come out on the streets and socialize!! Just hang out and laugh. So very strange :)

I think you visited South America not North America. I have not been to a country that has a better infrastructure with roads than US. I think we spend too much money on roads and bridges.

Please check your flight tickets and see where your plane landed.

Some states have good roads and others do not. The New York State Thruway is pretty decent but the surface roads and other highways in this state are as bad as any that I have seen in Russia or Romania.

And the number one thing that surprised my wife the most when she came here was the amount of overweight people that we have. Number two is the amount of drive-up things that we have, ATMs, etc.

Mens bathrooms are far cleaner then woman bathrooms in USA.  So Aloe is right on here.  If you know the right places you can find clean womens bathrooms.  Many womens bathrooms in USA get cleaned 1 time a day.
When you take Mexican and Black women out of the equation white women in America are thinner then what you will see in Belgium.  I lived in Belgium for more than 2 years so Aloe is accurate as well here.
My mother-in-law and wife they said the same thing where is all the fat AW. At least here in Texas when you see a very large woman 99% of the time Mexican or Black.  I have lived in the North before and you do see a lot more large white women up there.

I was trying to figure that out as well on roads.  Seems people still have problems on this board reading entire paragraph and jump to conclusions without really understanding what was wrote.
Roads in the USA are not great in many areas.  Same can be said about Europe, Asia, and South America.
Having lived in Michigan the roads are horrible because they allow roughly 2 times the weight of trucks on the roads as compared to most states (to help the auto industry and transport business into Canada).  They also have hot and cold weather with mositure which tears up the road.  More South you go you generally see better roads as they don't have weather issues and thus last longer.
In Houston we have a lot of pay roads and there in great shape generally.

...Having lived in Michigan the roads are horrible because they allow roughly 2 times the weight of trucks on the roads as compared to most states (to help the auto industry and transport business into Canada).

Like CVC, most states, including Michigan have a maximum gross weight of 80,000 lbs. Even the trucks used to deliver automobiles. If they can put 10 cars/trucks with an average weight of 4,000 lbs, that only equates to 40,000 lbs, then add the weight of the semi itself, which generally weight anywhere from 25,000 - 35,000 lbs depending on its features.

In most highways, especially through interstate commerce, there are weigh stations where trucks are diverted to check inventory and weight classification. Any over-weighted trucks, or illegal loading, are stopped and dispatched is made for specific companies to either send another trucks to share and lessen the load, or they'll issue a penalty for illegal loading.

So, no. Double weighted trucks are not allowed on the open roads and highways. Either in Michigan or elsewhere unless they're a) Off-road or b) Rare, heavily-regulated, usually escorted by official entities, specially permitted instances, eg. transport of the space shutte. They can only do this in very slow speed and at nights. They are not openly allowed. This is why we have the railways.

You have a point about seasonal weathering. Ice/water and even salt have a very high erosive effect to the roads - just like they do in Russia.

In California, Cal-Trans had recently mandated a new 'AC Mix specifications' (Asphalt Concrete) with their oil mix ratio and are also utilitizing 'Rubberized AC' more so in the latest projects than ever before (less prone to cracking).

Concrete paneling is also slowly replacing CIP or poured-in-place concrete in new construction and/or maintenance/repair (less prone to fracture and breakage).
