In the case of Syria, who was it who actually used the chemical weapons?

UN inspectors validated ownership. There needs to be accountability whether or not Assad gave the orders. He's in charge of his house and he knew foreign intervention could happen if chemical weapons are used.

If you supplied your home with chemicals and poisons and the kids used them on each other because they're not locked up, the authorities will be talking to you. In Syria's civil war, Assad should've taken extra precautions locking his chemical weapons up and relocating the delivery systems such as rockets so they couldn't be easily used. In my house the bullets and the guns are in different locations. It's not that hard to do. I don't want an accident and have the police come knocking on my door. Assad should prevent accidents so foreign intervention doesn't come knocking on his door.

Too bad Syria doesn't have as much oil as Libya because Obama would have received Europe's support in Syria and their conflict wouldn't drag on as long.

Women who get raped are guilty. If they did not invite the men, still their looks did, regardless of how they look. They failed to protect themselves and should be punished.

BillyB, have you served in the military?

Yes but how is that relevant to my opinion on this topic? I agree with Obama, who didn't serve in the military, that action should have been taken against Assad.

If Assad ordered chemical weapons on his people, he should be punished and made an example for other leaders of the world who would do so on civilians. If he didn't make the order and let controlled substances get out of his hands into the hands of rebels or terrorists, that's even worse. If one day people in Europe or America wake up to the smell of sarin gas or find chemicals in their water supply, they'd probably get angry at their leaders for not taking swifter action. Chemical weapons are much worse than suicide bombers and a terrorist attack that kills thousands can hurt economies worldwide. We learned that on 9/11.

Thank you for your service.

But isn't your point moot as SoS Kerry credits his dinner date Assad with complying with UN demands?

If and buts were candy and nuts, we could all be happy  :D

So, by your logic we should bomb and intervene in Syria's civil war and kill possibly 50-100K civilians because, IFAssad used a chemical weapon and killed 5000, he needs to be punished? Yeah, that'll show them who's the big swinging dick, won't it?

BTW, Sarin gas has no smell.

Stick to the dump truck driving Billy

Ah that's too bad. You are quite the sensitive sort. It wasn't directed at you and it wasn't an insult to a man that drives a dump truck, is it?

Now, if you wish to get back on topic and argue his insane position that killing more Syrians is justification and retaliation for killing fewer Syrians, step right up

Blues, don't dump truck drivers have a right to speak their mind?  90 million Americans don't work, why disparage dump truck drivers?  Especially dump truck drivers who served their country

FP, have you served in the military?

I don't see how the remark was disparaging dump truck drivers. The remark is a metaphor to say one need to confine their opinions to one knows well or specializes in. BillyB could've been a doctor, a cop, or anything else for that matter.

Why *especially* because he served his country? Does serving your country gives one an eternal pass to be *right* in everything they say from then on?

The one important thing you need to remember is, with the exception of myself of course, everyone can't be *right* all of the time.  :P

Unfortunately mostly they become special in a negative way.
The combination of having to follow orders without questioning and obtaining practice in killing other human beings often obfuscates the human mind beyond repair.  Once no longer bing part of the system peope often seek refuge in other systems that require blind following without question.
Many who participated in killing become 'frozen minded' where a human life no longer counts as valuable.

I have admiration for those who serve their country and protect, however I am aware that many become scarred for life.

beyond repair?

It is because of that sufferring that makes them special.  But more than that, it offers a man insights into who he is.  It offers him a unique leadership opportunities.  Not to disparage the other vocations but take the inverse, you have no idea how you will react in similar circumstances.  Wars and other events happen to civilians as well.  Some preparation must be made for them, no?

I, like everyone, have my preferences.
I simple yes or no would suffice. Does this mean that you just said that yes, you can feel your country is more important than God ?

Yes I have served in the military. I have seen death and destruction first hand and no doubt it does weigh on my convictions. I make no apologies for that. I didn't disparage dump truck drivers. My remark wasn't an insult and if you took it as one, you must have your reasons that have nothing to do with me.
